Suzuki GS500E '90
My motorcycle history
Back to main page
I've been riding motorcycles since I got my motorcycle license in 1993. I started with a red Suzuki GS500E from '89. This is a great bike to begin with. It is light, handles reasonably well, and has enough power for a small bike.  After a few months I could handle the bike so well I could loose guys on biger sportsbikes on the twistie roads near my home, but on the straights they blasted past me (out of pure frustration, who knows?). I've had this bike for one and a half years and rode aprox. 20.000 kms on it. Did no modifications.
Then I came to the point where I wanted more power and better handling an bought.......
Suzuki GSX-R 750 1991
.......my alltime dreambike: the Suzuki GSXR 750! This was the bike I always wanted to have, since I was a little boy. I still like the double headlights behind the clear glass.
Riding on this 1991 GSXR 750 made the GS500 feel like a Moped. It had better handling and of course more power.
After 2 years I thought it was time for some improvements on the handling and I fitted some
WP front suspension. This improved the handling a lot.  I recomend it to everyone as one of the first things to improve. It gives you a complete new bike for just €100-€150.  Another modification was the fitting of SS braided braklines.
I rode on the gixxer for 4.5 years with great fun. Did put about 65.000 kms on the clock.
Then in 1999 I bought the '96 ThunderAce. It was standing next to its '97 sister, which a friend of mine bought. Compared to the GSX-R this was a torpedo. As light as the gixxer, but with a lot more HP.
The first modification I did was the fitting of SS braided breakelines and (of course) the WP front suspension. For a complete discription of all the modifications see
this page.

I'm not thinking of trading the Ace in yet. It is still a very good sports-tourer and a lot of fun to ride!
