Meet The Cats
Merv was a beautiful cat that we bought in Temple City, CA, when he was only 8 weeks old.  Back then you could get a cat that already had one shot for about $10.00.  At first we couldn't decide on a name for him, but finally I told Mike, "Lets name him Merv," and Mike wondered where in the world I came up with that name for a white cat. I told him, "I was watching Merv Griffin on TV today, and this cat's eyes remind me of him." So Merv is the name that he got.  Merv was a very loving cat and loved to cuddle up in your arms or around your neck.  He was with us for over 12 years and gave us much pleasure and enjoyment.
Mercury got his name because he reminded me of the slick smooth ball of mercury I had worked with in a dental office.  His color was such a beautiful grey,  and it always looked like someone had just groomed him.  We bought him at a pet store at a very young age, right after we bought our first home in Temple City, CA.  Mike and I were both working at that time, but different hours, so most of the time one of us was always at home with Mercury.  It seemed that Mercury could tell time, because from about an hour before time for Mike to get home, I would see Mercury outside in the front lawn watching down the road for the car to come up the drive.  Mike said he had noticed the same thing  when I was due home from work.  Mercury was like a big baby and loved to come inside and get covered up with this lightweight blanket, and would lay there for hours with it on him this way.  He also had a game that he played with me.  He would hide around the corner from me, then when I went walking into the kitchen, he would jump out at me and attack me.  Of course, it was just a game and he never scratched me; but he would jump way up at me and I would jump and say, "Oh, you scared me!".  Seems each day he would do that with me all over again.  Since we lived on a very busy street in Temple City where there was a city park, we didn't get to keep Mercury very long with us.  One morning as Mike was leaving for work, a neighbor said, "I am  afraid that is your cat in the street there."  And sure enough, it was Mercury. Someone had hit him with a car that morning, and when Mike came in the house to tell me, he actually had tears in his eyes.  We put Mercury in a cloth-lined shoe box and buried him under the rose bushes where he played and rested so often in the front of our house. He was only about 3 years old at that time but had given us much love during the time he was with us.  Losing him in this tramatic way was so vary hard to bare, and I still think of this wonderful pet and friend.
To the left is Super Sam right after we first got him.  This was the very first animal of any kind that Mike and I bought and he was into everything.  After we had this cat we started saying when things were done that should not of been done, "Sam did it".
