JASON'S OTHER CARS HE HAS RACED CHARGER PAGE | ||||||||||
The second car I raced was my 1966 Dodge Charger. I raced it on the street and won a more than a few races. It was powered by a 383 first then a 440. I took this car to the track expecting 11's. It was a lot faster than my Toronado GT. This was the first quick car I had ever raced. Car statistics : Stage I Color - bad ass black Weight - est 4000 lbs, full interior, nothing taken off the car Motor - .030" over 440, 10.5:1 CR, ported 906 with big valves, roller rockers, very mild mechanical cam. Induction - Edelbrock Torker II intake, 850 Holley stock Ignition - MSD Exhaust - 1-7/8" primaries, open headers Tranny - 727 with a 3500 stall tq. Gearing - 4.56 posi in a Dana 60 Tires - stock up front, 28X8 slicks in the rear Rims - stock Suspension - stock Best ET - 12.803 Best MPH - 107.28 Best 60' - 1.851 ( the best 60' I got out of this combo was 1.786 ) This car was pretty cool, very black, very bad looking. The best run of 12.803@107.0 was done with a very bad miss all the way down the track. This was on pump gas, 93 octane. I latered learned was caused this miss, it was the valves and the fact the adjustment was off badly. I was unhappy with this performance so I went to the next stage. I am still impressed with the fact it had major problems and was a mild motor and ran as well as it did. If figure it would have ran 12.5's@109-110 if everything was running right on slicks, low 13's on some good street tires.. Car statistics : Stage II Color - same as before Weight - same as before Motor - .030" 440, stroked 1/8", 13:1 CR, same heads as before, same roller rockers, very aggresive mechanical cam Induction - same intake, smoothed out 850 Holley top Ignition - same as before Exhaust - same as before Tranny - same as before Gearing - same as before Tires - same as before Rims - same as before Suspension - same as before Best ET - 12.279 Best MPH - 111.06 Best 60' - 1.742 on this run, best with this combo was a 1.686 This was more like it, still not 11's but much quicker, a lot more grunt off the line, but it required racing gas. This combo was very consistent and I won many trophies from this combo. But this still was not fast enough for me, so I went to the next stage. Car statistics : Stage III Color - same as before Weight - 3800, all interior removed, racing seat, 12 pt rollcage Motor - .030" 400, 440 crank, 11.5:1 CR, Indy cast iron racing heads, custom roller rockers, very aggressive solid roller cam Induction - Indy intake, modified the 850 Holley even more Ignition - same as before Exhaust - 2" primaries, open headers Tranny - 727 with a 4500 stall tq. Gearing - same as before Tires - skinnies up front, 30X9 in the rear Rims - Centerline front and back Suspension - ladder bar Best ET - 11.193 Best MPH - 122.90 Best 60' - 1.594 This car was bad, plain put. We put a rollcage, ladder bar setup, pulled the interior and tried to lose some weight. My father wrecked the car into the local SAM'S club building and the chasis got sorta messed up. We fixed it the best we could. It was a battle every single time down the track and in retrospect it was the 9" slicks and skinny ass front tires basically made this boat difficult to drive to say the least. The main problem that the car had was the fact that it slipped shifting into 3rd gear every time and I needed more gearing, at least 4.88's. I believe that if I would have fixed these two problems the car would have went 10.9's-11.0's@124-125mph. I miss this beast. Want to see this timeslip? Want to see some pictures of this car? |
