The name JOYES crops up frequently in early Wisborough Green records; but at
this time we can find no connection with this line. Our link with the
district comes later.
Hannah JOYES was the third daughter of Thomas and Leah JOYES , baptised at
Billingshurst in 1802. She married a farm worker, Peter PACY of Wisborough
Green in 1821. This was where they raised a family and were at one time
known to be living on a property called Hulls.
Luke, a son of Thomas and Jane JOYES seems to have spent some time at the
Wisborough Green Workhouse. As he appeared to be older than the other
children living there, he may have been employed at the workhouse or was
waiting to be placed in farm work by the vestry. Later he became a marine.
