Peas and Carrots Chapter 17 We sat on the bed a little longer, not talking, just sitting in silence. It wasn’t one of those uncomfortable silences, we had just ran out of things to talk about for a while. I could smell something coming from downstairs. Dinner must be ready. I stood up and headed out the door to the kitchen downstairs. Nick followed a few steps behind. "What’s cookin’" I said as I stepped in the kitchen. Jane and my mom were over near the stove. There was a light on in the oven. I couldn’t tell what they were cooking, and obviously, neither could Nick. "Well, it’s a little something I like to call lasagna," replied Jane as she looked into the oven to check the meal. "I haven’t had this in forever!" Nick said as he walked over to the stove, looking at the food on it. "What else are we having with it?" I asked, peering over their shoulders. "Well, here we have some chocolate that I’m melting for dessert, but that’s later, of course." "Cake? Cookies? Pie? Chocolate-covered-anythings?" Nick was starting to look pretty hungry by now. "You’ll just have to wait and see," Jan replied with a grin on her face. About 10 minutes later, we all sat down to eat dinner. Angel, Aaron, and B.J. included. They had been off at some friends’ houses for the day, so I had never seen them-except Aaron-until now. they all seemed pretty nice from the 20 minutes that we were together for dinner that day. B.J. talked about going to a movie that weekend that she wanted to see with her friends, and Angel asked if she could spend the night at a girlfriend’s house. Aaron told Nick about a new Nintendo game that he saw at a friend’s house that day. "Really?" inquired Nick. "How far did you get? Did you beat the Master?" Stuff like that. It didn’t really interest me because I had never really gotten into playing those games, but I guess Nick and Aaron were experts on this kind of stuff. We finished up our meal and Nick went to his room and I went to my own room. "Don’t forget about dessert!" Jane called up at us from the foot of the stairs.Next: Chapter 18 |
