Chapter 33

AJ walked out from the bathroom, and grabbed his clothes that were strung around his messy hotel room. He saw Howie, laid back on his neat bed, watching CNN. He was ready for the concert that night, and they were scheduled to leave from the motel in approximately ten minutes. Howie had been ready for hours, but AJ had just jumped in the shower with barely fifteen minutes to spare.

"You look miserable Bone," Howie observed, as he shut off the television.

"What's up?"

"Nothing much," AJ shrugged, as he threw on some dark brown sunglasses and a white fisher's hat.

"Come on, let it out," Howie suggested, and AJ shook his head. Howie shrugged his shoulders, and took his leather jacket from the closet beside the door. He headed out, as AJ followed his out, making sure the motel was locked on the way out. They observed Brandy prancing out of Emilie's motel room, as Emilie came out and locked the door.

"Hi Howie! Hi AJ!" she sang, as she tried to give them both hugs at the same time. "I am so excited about the concert!"

"Me too!" Howie winked at her, as Emilie headed towards them.

"Hey guys! How are you?" Emilie asked them, as Brandy took her hand.

"Great Em," Howie replied, as Emilie noticed how miserable AJ looked.

"How are you?"

"I'm good," Emilie replied smiling. "Are you okay AJ?"

"Fine," AJ answered non-chalantly. "Is everyone else ready to go?"

"Yeah, we're coming," Kevin told him. "Hi Brandy."

"Hey Kevy," Brandy smiled at him. "I like your hair!" They all looked to see the fresh new brown highlights through Kevin's hair.

"They look nice Kev," Emilie told him, and he thanked them. She felt someone wrapped his arms around her, as warm butterflies entered her stomach. She looked up to see Nick smiling at her.

"Hey there," he whispered into her ear, and kissed her cheek.

"Hi," Emilie replied, smiling happily. She turned around, and gave him a quick squeeze.

"My turn!" Brandy sang, and she gave Nick a quick hug. "Now, off to the concert! I want to see Britney perform!"

"We're off," Brian promised her. Nick took Emilie's hand, as Brandy settled walking with Howie ahead. Emilie turned to see AJ, still looking more miserable then ever. She felt honestly bad for him. He had been there for her so many times, and he always left his emotions within himself.

"Nick, I'm gonna talk to AJ okay?" she asked him, and he nodded, heading towards Brian. Emilie stepped back, and walked with AJ towards the elevator. "Hey Bone."

"Hey Em," AJ replied. "What's up?"

"Nothing much, how are you?" Emilie replied, smiling.

"Everything's just peachy," AJ lied, and Emilie glanced at him.

"AJ, I know you are upset about something or someone," Emilie told him.

"Want to talk about?"

"Thanks Em, but I think I want to handle this myself," AJ answered. "But thanks anyway."

"Okay, AJ, but I'm around if you want to talk it out," Emilie promised him, and he responded by giving her a quick hug...

Joey and JC decided to grab some food from the green room, as they watched Britney perform on the tv screen within the room. She was doing a cover of Cher's "And The Beat Goes On", and they saw Justin watching the screen, captured by Britney. JC and Joey exchanged looks, as they both wondered every day if Justin liked Britney or vice versa.

Joey had been flirting with Britney's dancer Tanya, but nothing much seemed to be coming out of the flirting. Joey figured nothing was going to come out of it and was anxiously looking around for someone to hang out. JC seemed to have gotten over Ariale, although he still found her incredibly attractive.

"Justin, stare a little harder," Joey teased him.

"Wha-what?" Justin stammered, as JC and Joey chuckled good-naturedly.

"Never mind," Joey replied, and Justin blushed a cherry red. They both collapsed on the chairs around the room, and watched as Brandy entered the room. She walked towards the food tables, and picked up some pizza bites that were barely left. She plopped down on the seat beside Joey, and smiled at him.

"Hi!" she exclaimed cheerfully. "How are you?"

"Good," Joey replied. "How are you?"

"I'm in love!" Brandy shrieked, as she pointed towards Justin. "I love Justin!"

"Oh," Joey replied, as Justin looked over at hearing his name.

"Hey Brandy," Justin smiled at her.

"Hi Curly," she replied, and giggled again. "Sissie calls you that and so does Nick!"

"Brandy, are you bothering everyone in here?" Emilie asked, peeking her head inside the door.

"No Sissie," Brandy answered smiling. "Come and have some pizza!"

"Okay," Emilie replied, casting a smile at Justin, Joey, and JC. "I'm always in the mood for pizza."

"Sissie, I want to go find Nick!" Brandy whined, as Emilie took a plate, and grabbed some pizza.

"Okay, but I think he's rehearsing," Emilie replied. "Have a good performance guys. Talk to ya later."

"See ya Em," Joey replied, and they headed out the door.

"How come there are no more girls in the world like her?" JC asked Joey.

"She's perfect."

"Em's a sweet girl," Joey replied. "Nick got lucky."

"Yeah, and after he cheated on her twice, she still took him back," JC replied. "I kind of wished Ariale could have hooked up with me. I really started to like her."

"Man, I thought I had something with Tanya," Joey shrugged.

"You know, it's hard to find nice women in what we do," Justin commented, as he got some pizza from the table. "I really thought I liked Paige, but whatever happened with that."

"Em saved you from despair," Joey told him, and Justin nodded. "Does she have anymore friends?"

"I don't think so," JC replied. "Come on, look at all the fine fans that pack the venues every night. How about we go sit in the audience or something, and try to find some women?"

"Most of our fans are 14-years-old," Joey reminded him.

"There are some older fans," Justin responded, as the door opened once more, and Emilie appeared. "Hey Em. Can you talk for a few minutes?"

"Sure guys, what's up?" Emilie asked cheerfully, as she sat down on the armrest of Joey's chair.

"Well, how old are the fans usually in the audience because you probably see them more then us?" Joey asked.

"They are about 14," Emilie replied, as they saw desperation within their eyes. "And there are some older fans as well."

"Any my age?" JC wanted to know, and Emilie nodded. "Really?"

"Actually, I have seen many older fans at the last few concerts," Emilie answered. "Why, are you all in need of women?"

"Well, since you are already taken..." Joey joked, and Emilie beamed at him.

"Joey, you're crazy," Emilie smiled. "Okay, come on, you have so many fans around the world. Want my help?"

"Sure," Justin spoke up. "You seem to talk to the fans easily."

"Don't be too eager now Curly," Joey teased him, and Emilie laughed.

"So, any ideas Miss.Parker?"

"I am going to quiz some fans at the concert tonight and see if there are any worthy of dating you," Emilie replied.

"Worthy of dating us?" JC laughed. "More like the other way around."

"Come on guys," Emilie told them. "You guys all deserve really great girlfriends. You shouldn't have someone date you for who you are. It's all about what's inside."

"Now, you're getting all sappy," Joey teased her, and she punched him playfully.

"Joey, I'm serious," Emilie replied. "You guys are like big brothers to me. I really want the best for you."

"Can we kidnap you forever?" Joey wanted to know.

"Sure!" Emilie answered smiling. "I will look for you tonight." She stood up quickly, as she saw the time on her watch.

"Oh and Em, you deserve someone great as well," Justin told her, and she glanced back at them.

"Nick is great," Emilie answered, as she felt tears form in her eyes. "He just made some mistakes. I love him. And he really loves me."

"Em, I didn't mean...I'm sorry-" Justin stammered.

"Of course Nick loves you," Joey told her, as he stood up, and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

"Thanks," Emilie replied, as she wiped the tears away from her eyes. "I'm sorry."

"No prob," JC told her. "It's been a hard few weeks." Emilie nodded, and she headed out the door.

"I feel bad for her," Joey told them, as he sat back down on the couch.

"Nick really hurt her bad."

"Yeah, but look in her eyes, she loves him a lot," JC told him. "Justin, don't worry about it."

"I didn't mean to make her cry," Justin commented. "Geez, I never say the right things."

"Come on, everyone makes mistakes," Joey told him. "Nick and Emilie have just had some shaky problems. I am sure they are going to work everything out. You know how miserable they are without one another."

"Tell me about it," JC commented. "I mean, my ex-girlfriend cheated on me before, and I took her back."

"Samantha was nasty JC," Joey told him. "She was rude, crude, and freaked every guy who crossed her path. She even tried to get Chris. She was nasty."

"I know that now," JC told him. "Well, we'd better stay out of Nick and Emilie's relationship. They are old enough to make it on their own. Besides, nobody worried about Samantha and I."

"Yeah we did," Justin told him. "We tried numerous times to show you what a cheater she was. You never listened to us."

"Really?" JC asked them, and Joey and Justin nodded. "Oh. Well thanks for caring."

"Man, give me a hug!" Joey joked, and they gave each other brotherly hugs.

Oceane Andrews watched the waves crash in along the Pacific Ocean, as the sun began fading in the distance. She sat down on a nearby bench and embraced the cool breeze that had picked up within the last few minutes. She loved coming to the ocean to think. She loved dreaming about her unexplainable future with Pat and wondered what their wedding was going to be like. She missed him. He had been gone to New York City for a few days on a business trip, and she had been stuck alone in his beach front condo. School wasn't starting for another few months and her job search had turned out to be ultimately hopeless. She had tried everything from working at Burger King to get a secretary job at a law firm, but nobody wanted to hire someone with no experience.

"Hi!" said an unfamiliar voice, and Oceane turned to see a very good-looking man with striking features. He was holding a Kodak camera and was photographing the waves.

"Um, hi," Oceane answered caustiously. "Can I help you?"

"Not really," he shrugged. "Actually, have you ever considered modeling?"

"Yeah," Oceane replied, and she started walking away. He walked the other way, and Oceane turned around for a few seconds, and noticed the strange man was gone. She didn't really wonder who he was, or where he had come from, but a brilliant idea had just came into her mind. She should try petite modeling, and realized it was the perfect job. She headed back up the coast, and skipped onto her front porch. She unlocked the screen door, and escaped into their small kitchen. She grabbed the phonebook, and settled down to search for modeling agencies with a piece of kiwi. She found an agency called Filmore Modeling Agency, and quickly telephoned them.

"Hello?" a pleasant sounding woman answered the phone.

"Hi, are you accepting petite models?" Oceane asked politely.

"Actually, we are in desparate need of them," the lady answered. "Can I book you an appointment? What's your name?"

"Oceane Andrews," She answered excitedly. The lady confirmed a four o'clock appointment with the modeling scout, and she quickly grabbed a black halter top, black leather skirt, and a black sweater, and changed. She headed out the door, and grabbed the keys to Pat's brand new silver Jeep. She drove about fifteen miles and ended up at the sosphicated offices of Filmore. She valet parked Pat's Jeep and headed up the front steps of the agency.

"Can I help you?" asked the secretary and Oceane gave them her name. She was led down a straight hallway and ended up at a beautiful black marble door. She was escorted through the door, and revealed an unusual-looking men, wearing a leather suit, and drinking some Chardonnay wine. He winked at Oceane, and gestured for her to sit down.

"Hi," he winked again, and looked her over. Oceane shifted uncomfortably, as he gave her a relaxed smile. "What size are you?"

"I'm a 1," Oceane answered promptly and he nodded.

"Great," he smiled once more. "My name is Jocaquin Filmore and I am the owner of this fine establishment. We are in dire need of petite models. It seems all of our successful models have travelled elsewhere to pursue their careers. Have you ever modelled before?"

"I have considered it, but never followed my dream," Oceane replied honestly. "Do I have a chance?"

"It depends on what the trends say," Jocaquin replied, as he swirled around in his chair. "Sometimes they want plus sized models, and sometimes they want your height. You have to be willing to work hard. Do you have any contacts?"

"My fiancee is a DJ," Oceane replied. "And I dated AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys." She honestly hated using her acquaintance with the guys, but she knew AJ wouldn't mind if she told Jocaquin to get a job.

"Do you still know him?" Jocaquin wanted to know.

"My friend dates Nick Carter," Oceane told him. "I was just at their concert last week."

"Could you maybe see about setting our agency up for their next video?" Jocaquin asked bluntly and Oceane stared at him.

"I don't think that's a good idea," Oceane replied. "That's immoral."

"That's the fashion business," Jocaquin pointed out. "Don't worry about it. I wasn't serious anyway. So, I need to run you through some test shots. Can you come by tomorrow at nine?"

"I think I can make it," Oceane answered, pasting a smile on her face. "About AJ, I am not sure what they are doing for their next video."

"Actually Oceane, I was testing you," Jocaquin replied. "I wanted to know what a nice person you are. Our agency has fired many models because we dislike cattiness and models who have big heads. We aren't here to kiss your ass. We are here to make sure you are successful, but you have to be pleasant to everyone, whether they are myself or the daughter of the producer for the day."

"That's just respect," Oceane replied. "I would never be rude to anyone."

"Good," Jocaquin smiled, and he stood up. "You're hired. You could go very far Oceane and I am glad you choose our agency to help you in your quest to model!"

"I'm glad I met you," Oceane smiled, and they shook each other's hands.

Howie paced back and forth, outside his dressing room where he heard Kevin and Brian standing to Brian's girlfriend Leanne who has just flew in from LA. He had ventured out of the dressing room because Kelly had left another message on his phone, and he couldn't believe the lastest development in this soap opera that had invaded his love life for over six months. Kelly had recently gotten out of the hospital, after being beaten up by her boyfriend, but now was back with him. She had desperately wanted Howie back, but now was with the other guy. She had called Howie and left a message on his cell phone, wanting to reconcile their differences and become friends again.

"Howie! You look like your best friend just died!" AJ commented, as he walked past him. "What's up?"

"Nothing," Howie answered softly, and walked away from AJ for some privacy. He ventured off into a spare dressing room, and decided to call back Kelly. He was unsure of her intentions, but just wanted to talk to her once more.

"Hello?" answered a tired-sounding Kelly.

"Hey Kel," Howie said slowly. "How are you?"

"Ted?" she replied quickly. "Hi sweetie! I missed you so much!"

"It's Howie," Howie answered, and Kelly gasped. "Who's Ted?"

"Oh, hi Howie," Kelly replied sourly. "Why are you calling me?"

"You left a message on my machine that you wanted me to call you," Howie replied and Kelly sighed.

"Well, that was yesterday," Kelly snapped. "I don't think we should talk anymore Howie."

"But I thought you wanted-," Howie was cut off.

"Ted and I have worked out our problems," Kelly answered shortly. "Goodbye Howard." She ended the call, as Howie dropped the phone in depression.

He shook his head, as he felt tears forming in his eyes. He had never loved anyone as much as he had loved Kelly. Even though they had only dated for about five months, she had meant the world to him. He loved the way she loved, the way her forehead crinkled up when she was nervous, and her cute little nose that was her trademark. Although she had treated him bad for a few months, he still had stuck by and loved her. Now, she was out of his grasp forever and all he could do was wish for what he never may have.

Howie heard the door creep open and he turned to see Emilie peep in.

"Oops sorry," she smiled, but at the look on Howie's face, she stopped short. "Howie, what's wrong?" She rushed to his side.

"Nothing really," Howie replied, and Emilie sat down beside him. "Kelly."

"Oh, I'm sorry," Emilie said softly. "Is everything okay?"

"Not really," Howie replied, shaking his head. "She just told me that Ted and her have worked out their problems supposedly."

"You really love her, don't you?" Emilie asked, and Howie nodded.

"Kelly's not good enough for you Howie. You deserve way better."

"And where is the way better?" Howie wanted to know. "I need someone in my life. I hate being alone."

"I totally understand how you feel," Emilie offered. "Without Nick, I feel miserable."

"How are things there since last time we talked?" Howie asked, and she smiled.

"Pretty great," Emilie answered, pushing a piece of hair out of her face. "I am really glad we worked out our problems."

"I'm glad you did too," Howie said honestly. "Nick was miserable when you were fighting." They turned to see the door slam open, and reveal AJ is a space costume.

"Concert in ten," AJ told them. "I got your costume already Em."

"Thanks AJ!" Emilie winked. "Come on Sweet D. You'll be okay. I promise."

"Thanks Em," Howie smiled, and accepted his helmet from AJ. "Thanks Man.

You know, I think this is going to be a great show!"

"It's always a great show!" AJ added. "Em, are you going to watch?"

"Actually, I'm on a mission," Emilie replied mysteriously. "Wish me luck."

"Good luck," Howie winked, and she walked down the hallway, and disappeared into the dressingroom Nick was in. She saw Brandy had gone off to watch the concert with Dalilia and Katie.

Emilie stopped short, as a smile creased across her face. I know how to get Howie's spirits up! she thought to herself. Arrange a romantic date with Dalilia and Howie! But first, I have to find some dates for Joey, JC, and Justin.

She grabbed AJ's fisher hat and threw it on, as she pulled back her hair. She took Nick's sunglasses, and headed out towards the security entrance. She passed easily because nobody recognized her, and into the side entrance, where she started to walk through the crowd of the Hartford Center. She felt screaming echo through her ears, as she saw BSB explode on stage. They were flying onto the stage with "Larger Then Life", and the crowd was getting into the beat more rapidly then she had ever seen before. She turned left and walked up Section 103. She spotted two older fans in the first row, and decided they looked pretty nice.

"Hi!" Emilie yelled cheerfully, as the girls turned to look at her.

"Yeah?" the one snapped, as her friend instantly recognized Emilie.

"Nick's girlfriend!" she shrieked. "Hi Emilie! How are you?"

"I'm okay," Emilie laughed clearly. "How are you?"

"I'm so excited to meet you!" she added. "I'm Charlotte Perkins and this is my stepsister Elvira Monroe! We are such big fans!"

"Aw! Emilie!" shrieked a fan near her, and she watched as about twenty fans rushed at her. Nick was in the middle of his line on "Larger Then Life", when he heard his girlfriend's name being called. He stopped midway, and watched as the fans pushed Emilie against the staircase nearest the stage.

"Hey!" Nick yelled through the microphone, as he saw AJ looked at him curiously. "Stop rushing at my girlfriend!" The fans stopped clawing at Emilie, as they heard Nick yell through the microphone. Emilie looked shocked, as she saw Charlotte and Elvira rush to her side.

"Emilie, you suck," one fan screamed at her, and pushed her away. She headed back to her seat, and everyone left her alone. Emilie was shocked and confused at the way the fans had rushed at her. She had never experienced this degree of pandomonium then she had that instant. She turned towards the stage, to see Nick glancing at her worried. She gave him a brave smile, and he nodded, continuing the next song with the guys.

"I need air," Emilie muttered, and saw Charlotte and Elvira follow her outside the venue. "Thanks."

"That was wierd," Charlotte commented, as she held the side entrance open for Emilie. "I can't believe some fans are so wrecked."

"They are just jealous of Emilie," Elvira spoke for the first time in a heavy accent. "I'm from Germany."

"Cool," Emilie offered a smile, as they followed her backstage. "That was definitely unnerving. I don't think I'll go out unguarded into a concert again in my life. Oh, do you guys mind missing the concert and coming backstage?"

"Not at all!" Charlotte answered excitedly. "I can't believe you actually talked to us, let alone, bring us backstage."

"I was on a special mission," Emilie replied graciously, as the passed security with no problems. They walked near the back of the stage, as she saw the guys rush down the staircase for a quick costume change. Nick got sight of Emilie and ran over to her.

"Are you okay?" he asked, as he wrapped his arms around her. "What were you thinking Hun? I hope you're okay!"

"I'm fine Sweetie," Emilie answered, as she pulled him close. "I'm okay. Thanks for saying what you did."

"You're welcome Honey, but please never do that again without Q or Lonnie by your side," Nick answered, as he kissed her on the forehead, and Emilie promised him.

"This is Charlotte and Elvira," Emilie introduced them to Nick, and the rest of the guys, who offered a quick wave, but AJ blew a kiss at them. Charlotte giggled, as AJ made a funny face and made Elvira blush. Nick kissed Emilie once more, and headed to get his costume changed.

"Em, wow, Nick and you are really in love," Charlotte commented.

"Char, that was pretty dippy!" Elvira groaned, as her black braids beaded together. Emilie looked at Elvira and it finally struck her at how much she looked like Brandy. She had big brown eyes, and a thin body that was accented in the white sundress she was wearing. Charlotte was more homely looking with dark blond hair that was twisted up in buttefly clips, and was wearing an Adidas t-shirt with sturdy jeans. She had a messanger bag swung behind her shoulders, and a smile that seemed to fade.

"Do you like 'N Sync?" Emilie asked them, and Charlotte shrieked.

"I LOVE them!" Charlotte replied.

"Great, because you are going to meet them now," Emilie informed them. "Follow me this way!" She walked over to the green room, and opened the door to see the guys in the middle of a food fight. Justin grinned at Emilie and threw a piece of ice cream at her, and it hit her smack in the forehead. She quickly grabbed whatever food was spared on the table, and this erupted into a full-fledged food fight, as Elvira and Charlotte watched from the door.

"Em, watch out!" Joey screamed at her, and she ducked as a piece of pie missed her barely, and stuck Elvira on the cheek.

"Sorry!" Chris yelled to Elvira, who just wiped it off.

"Wow, hey Ladies," Joey flirted, as the rest of the guys turned to see their audience. Emilie watched as Justin and JC blushed, Joey flirted with them, and Chris kind of chilled and talked to Lance, who was sitting calmly on one of the couches.

"Hi," Charlotte shrieked. "I'm Charlotte."

"Nice to meet you," Joey kissed her hand and he turned to Emilie. "Good job Em!" He winked at her, and Emilie just smiled, as Justin socked the back of her with some cake, and she watched as Brandy and Katie came into the room, and another food fight erupted once more....
