Going Home Chapter 16 "I think I’m gonna head up to bed. What about you? Are you tired?" Lance asked her. Erika shook her head and moved so he could get up off the couch. "I’m gonna stay down here for a while. Good night, sweetie. Sweet dreams." "They’d be sweeter if I was with you," he told her, reaching down to kiss her. "We already discussed that," Erika replied after she pulled away from him. "Just think Chicago." Lance smiled down at her and ruffled her hair. "I am. Believe me, I am. Good night, Cupcake," he said, leaning down to kiss her again. "Good night," she replied and watched him walk out of the room. Kim and Nick were lying comfortably together in bed. Nick had his arms wrapped around her and her head was resting on his chest, her hand absently stroking his chest. "Nick..." she called. "Hum?" "I hate to totally wreck the mood, but I’m hungry," Kim told him. Nick laughed. "Don’t worry, hun. I was just trying to figure out a way to tell you the same thing." Nick got up and pulled on his boxers. Kim smiled at the view. "You’ve got a cute butt, you know that Carter?" Nick whipped around, his face red. He crawled back on the bed and pulled the sheet away from Kim, looking her up and down. He smiled, "And you’ve got a cute..." "Be quiet, Nick," she laughed and pulled him to her roughly in a passionate kiss. "What about food?" Nick mumbled against her neck. Kim pulled his face back to hers. "I’m not hungry anymore," she told him, kissing him passionately. "This is great," Katie said, stretching lavishly in the sun. "Tell me about it," Kevin said, turning to Katie. "Do you need some lotion?" Katie giggled, turning to her husband. "You just put more on 5 minutes ago." Kevin moved toward her and began rubbing her shoulders. Katie leaned into her husbands caresses and sighed. "Why is it that you can’t keep your hands off of me?" she asked. "Because I love you and you look totally hot in that swim suit!" Kevin told her. Releasing her shoulders, he gently pushed her to the sand. Then he began his assault on her mouth. "Kevin, Kevin," she whispered against his lips. "Kevin, we’re on a public beach and if you keep that up we’re gonna get arrested for indecent exposure," she told him giggling. Kevin pulled away from her and pulled her to her feet. "Then let’s go to out private room." "I don’t know, Kevin. I thought we decided to get out of the hotel for a while," Katie told him, her eyes sparkling. "What?" Kevin asked incredulously. Katie smiled brightly. "Race you to the room!" Erika continued to sit in front of the fire, thinking about how her life had drastically changed in the last two weeks. She starred into the fire, in a world all her own, when a soft female voice spoke to her from the doorway. "Hi Erika," she said. Erika turned her head around. "Oh, hi Mrs. Bass. Sorry, I was sort of somewhere else." She smiled at Erika gently. "Somewhere with my son, I’m presuming? And you can call me Diane." She laughed when Erika looked at her, shocked. "What? You don’t think that I’ve never been caught with that same look on my face, did you?" Erika continued to look at her for a moment, then finally joined her in her laughter. "I’m sorry. Sometimes I just get myself lost..." she trailed off. "I know the feeling. I had the same one alot when I first met Jim. What am I talking about? I still get it sometimes!" Diane said. Erika smiled. "Well, it’s nice to know that it doesn’t go away." Diane shook her head. "Not if it’s love, it doesn’t," she said, looking at Erika. Erika thought for a moment before responding to the older woman. "Well I guess they won’t be going away. It’s definitely love." "I know," Diane told her. Erika looked at her in disbelief. "What do you mean you know?" she asked. Diane smiled and touched the young woman’s shoulder. "Mother’s know these things. He loves you too, you know. You two remind me so much of Jim and I when we were first together." She smiled at her. "Go on, get out of here. Go to him," Diane told her. Erika smiled and stood up. "Thank you. Good night, Diane." Diane stood up and hugged the woman who was so deeply in love with her son. "Good night, sweetie." Erika ran upstairs, changed, grabbed her stuffed dog, and walked down the hall to Lance’s room. She knocked softly on the door, then opened it slowly. Lance sat up in bed when he saw her enter the room. "What are you doing here? My parents will kill me," he told her. Erika walked across the room and crawled into bed with him. "No they won’t. Actually, your mom just sent me up here." Lance just looked at her. "What are you talking about?" he asked. "Well, we got to talking and she said that we remind her of your dad and her when they were first together. She told me that she knew that we were in love and then she told me to go to you," Erika said. Lance smiled and kissed her softly. "What a wonderful, insightful mother I have. OK, now who’s this?" he asked, pointing to her stuffed dog. "This is James. I can’t sleep without him," Erika said. "Is that a double meaning?" Lance asked, laughing softly. "Maybe," she said smiling. She then kissed him tenderly and settled into his arms. "Good night. I love you, Lance." "Good night, Erika. I love you too." "Good night, Kim. I love you." "I love you too, Nicky. Good night." "I love you, Kevin" "I love you, Katie." This couple, however, didn’t go to sleep.Next: Chapter 17 |
