Chapter 2

"It's no problem, really," the man said as he bent to pick up some papers he dropped.

"Here, let me help," I said, and knelt to help him. We reached for a piece of paper at the same time and our hands brushed. I felt an electric current pass through me. I looked over at the man and it seemed to be having the same effect on him. He even blushed a bit. I straighten up and said, "Again, I am very sorry." Then I began to walk away.

"Wait," he called out after me. "Wow, I usually don't do this, but would you consider having dinner with me tonight?" he asked.

"Um, I usually don't do this either, but sure. Maybe you could tell me your name though?" I asked.

He laughed. It was a deep, sexy laugh and I almost melted. "Hi, I'm Lance Bass."

I tapped myself on the forehead. "I thought you looked familiar. 'N Sync, right?" He nodded. "Hi Lance. I'm Erika Richardson," I said.

"Nice to meet you. By any chance, are you related to Kevin Richardson?" Lance asked me.

I smiled. "Actually yeah, I'm his sister."

"Cool. Well, I'm late so I should be going. It was nice meeting you, Erika. I'll see you tonight, how about 7?"

"Sure, 7 it is. Do you need an address?" I asked.

"Nope, I know where Kevin lives. See you tonight," he said.

"Bye!" I called after him, then ran in search of Kevin and Katie. I finally found them near one of the studios. Kevin was waiting impatiently, tapping his foot and peering at his watch.

"I am so sorry. I woke up late, then I literally ran into someone in the lobby. Are you ready to go, Katie?" She nodded.

"Before you go, here's an early Christmas present," Kevin said, handing me one of his credit cards. "Buy yourself a new dress for the wedding. Get one for Kim, too."

I threw my arms around my brother. "Thank you! I love you! Come on, Katie. Let's go before he changes his mind."

"Bye, baby," Katie said and kissed Kevin good bye.

Once we were out of earshot of Kevin, I turned to Katie. "You will never guess what just happened!" I said.

"What? Come on, girl, do tell!" she said.

"OK, but wait until we're in the car so I can tell Kim too," I told her. Once we were in the car I told them the whole story of what happened in the lobby.

"Way to go, Erika! Actually, I didn't tell you yet, but I have a date with Nick tonight," Kim said.

"Alright, Kimmy!" I shouted.

"Well, this definitely calls for some new, first date outfits," Katie said.

Kim and me looked at each other. "Katie," Kim said, "we're college students. We have no money."

"Sure you do. Erika, did Kevin not just give you his credit card?" she asked, smiling slyly.

"Why yes, he did. Why not tack on another Christmas present. You too, Kim," I said.

"I can't," Kim replied, "that's your brother's money."

I turned slightly in my seat to look at her. "You’re a part of this family now. Kevin treats you like a sister. As a matter of fact, he told me to have you buy a new dress for the wedding. Take it, Kim. Please?"

"OK, but only if your sure," she said.

"I'm sure. Now let's hit the mall. God, I love my brother!"

The three women got back to the house at about 5. Kim flew through the door and right to the bathroom for a shower. Kevin and Brain were sitting in the kitchen when Katie and I walked in.

"OK, two things," Kevin said. "One, you have had phone calls from the following people: Jenette, Lesley, Cheryl, Kristen, and Becky. Oh yeah, and Lance Bass. What's that about?"

I blushed. "You know when I told you I literally ran into someone in the lobby today? Well, it was him and he asked me to have dinner with him tonight. I wonder what he wanted?"

Brian looked at me and grinned. "Well, he probably..."

"Shut up, Brian. Before you say something and I have to hit you, shut up!" I replied, glaring at him.

"That's enough," Kevin said. "The second thing is I wanna know exactly how much you put on my credit card?"

I looked guiltily at the floor. "Um, 3 dresses, a skirt, 2 shirts, and 4 pairs of shoes."

"WHAT?" Kevin exploded.

"Oh honey, calm down," Katie said and sat on Kevin's lap. She took his face in her hands and kissed him. When she pulled away, she said, "You told them each to get a new dress. You can't get a new dress without new shoes. Then they each had a first date tonight so they needed new outfits, thus leading to another new pair of shoes."

Kevin just starred blankly at her.

Katie laughed and kissed him again. "Besides, I told them you wouldn't mind. Don't worry Kev. Someday you'll understand."

"It won't be soon enough. You'll pay for this later," he told her.

"Promise?" she asked, raising her eyebrows suggestively.

Kevin responded by kissing her passionately.

"Oh, disgusting!" Brian and I said at the same time. The couple didn't move.

"Well, I guess I'll be going," Brian said, standing up.

"Hot date tonight, Bri?" I asked.

He laughed. "Yeah, with my Play Station. See ya later. Have fun tonight, sweetie."

"Bye Brian," I said and kissed him on the cheek, then ran upstairs to get ready.

Kim burst through my bedroom door. I was just getting ready to blow dry my hair after my shower. "How do I look?" she asked.

"Perfect! Nick is going to fall over when he sees you," I told her. Kim was dressed in a short, gray dress with spaghetti straps. The dress had a ribbon right under the chest and flared from there into the skirt. It also had black flowers embroidered on it. Simple black heeled sandals completed the outfit. Her light brown hair was half up and she wore light makeup.

"Are you sure?" she asked.

"I'm positive!" I paused when I heard the doorbell. "There he is, Kim. Have fun!" I said as she headed nervously out the door.

Kim headed downstairs and into the living room. She saw Nick standing talking to Kevin and Katie, who were sitting on the couch.

"There she is," Kevin said, standing up. He walked across the room and hugged the young woman who had become his sister. "Nervous?" he whispered. She simply nodded her head. "You'll be fine. He's a good guy. Have fun," he stepped back and kissed her forehead. "OK, you two, not too late." With that he gave Kim a little push toward Nick.

Nick took her small hand in his. "You ready?"

"Yup. Let's rock!" Kim said. "Bye guys," she said over her shoulder as Nick led her out the door.

About twenty minutes later the couple was entering a seaside restaurant. "Reservations for Carter," Nick said.

"Yes, here they are. Right this way, Mr. Carter," the hostess said and led them to their table. Nick pulled out the chair for Kim, and then sat down himself. The two passed the time with small talk. After they had ordered and their drinks had been brought to them, Nick said, "So tell me about yourself, Kim."

Kim blushed slightly. "What do you wanna know?"

"Anything and everything," Nick answered her smiling.
