Then and Now Chapter 5 Nick opened the back gate and waved everyone through before following Lis inside. AJ and Krys' backyard was packed with people. "This is a small get together?" Hannah whispered to Lis. "Maybe to them. This looks like grad to me." Lis replied. "There will be no whispered conversations girls." Brian said in a stern voice then cracked up laughing. "Jeez Bri, your gonna scare them and they've only been in town eight hours." Aimee said, rolling her eyes. "What should we do first? Eat, dance, mingle?" Nick asked looking around. "Warning, don't dance with Nick. Aimee can attest to the fact its dangerous to your health." AJ said walking up behind the group. He looked over the two newcomers with interest. "Hello ladies, I'm AJ also known as Bone." He grinned at each of them and Hannah nearly fainted when he shook her hand. "Bone? Why do you all have such weird nicknames?" Lis asked, looking the tattooed guy over with interest. His hair was so green it almost looked like he could have had a piece of grass clued to his head. "Weird nicknames? We don't have weird nicknames do we Frick?" Nick asked with a grin. "Not at all Chaos." Brian replied grinning. "Enough!" A girl said coming up behind AJ. She smiled at Lis. "I'm Krys, AJ's better half." she shook Lis and Hannah's hands. "That's a good description Krys." Aimee said laughing. AJ rolled his eyes. "No its not." "Its the truth Bone." Krys grinned at her boyfriend. "You should go check on the burgers, Kevin looked like he was burning them." AJ turned and looked at the deck."Kev! Back away from the barbecue." he yelled and headed in Kevin's direction. "Going for food!" Nick said and grabbed Brian's arm and they headed through the crowd to the food table. Han and Lis stood there looking around the party. "So you two, lets get you some drinks or something." Krys said, practically dragging them deeper in the party.Howie stood next to Nick, watching Nick inhale his third burger in five minutes. "Ok I know your a growing boy but..." "I'm storing up energy all right? Planning on dancing later." "With who? Everyone knows you cause bodily harm to the girl you dance with." Nick grinned. "Not everyone knows that D, and its not true." "Nick, Aimee?" "She tripped." "Krys?" "Let go of my hand, not my fault we were that close to the pool." "Nina?" "Now Nina slid out of my hand when I was dipping her." Howie shook his head. "Its their first night in town, give them a break huh?" Nick laughed. "You sound like Aimee, did you two plan this?" A redhead wandering aimlessly around the party caught his attention. "Lis?" he yelled. Lis turned around when she heard Nick yell her name. They'd been there nearly two hours and she'd managed to lose Han in the crowd and hadn't seen anyone she recognized. She was tempted to use her cell phone to call the Carters and get them to pick her up. She spotted Nick standing next to a short guy next to the food table. That was no surprise, she'd seen how he packed food away during dinner. "Hi Nick." She said walking over. "You looked lost." Nick observed as she walked stood next to him. "I was lost. Han and Aimee disappeared, Brian went who knows where...you well I think I lost you after I saw you near the gate." Nick grinned. "Well you found me. Lis this is D, D this is Lis." D smiled. "This is Lis your little..." he stopped seeing Nick's look. "His little what?" "Houseguest." D answered quickly. "And I hear Jenn calling me so I'll be off. Nice meeting you." Nick watched as Howie disappeared into the crowd. Lis leaned against the fence and looked at Nick. He had a dazed look on his face. "Yo Nicko." Nick turned to look at her. "Yes Lisao." He said using her childhood nickname. "Shoot you remembered." Lis smiled.. "I remember tons of stuff, the nicknames, the water fights, the frogs." he grinned deviously at her. "Don't mention the frogs Carter!" she said, giving him a dirty look. Because of him she was afraid of those creatures. "I won't. How about a dance? I don't think you've hit the floor all night." Lis glanced over at the dance floor, which actually was the second larger deck. "Promise you won't kill me?" "I promise. Come on." He grabbed her arm and pulled her to the dance floor. Han danced with Brian at the edge of the dance floor. So far they had spent most of the night talking. Brian poked Han's arm and motioned for her to look over. "What is she doing?" Han asked in surprise. "Either she can't resist the Carter charm or she felt sorry for the poor guy." Bri laughed and looked over at the dancing couple. "I'll vote for the second one, Lis can be pretty stubborn with guys. Took her two months to agree to date Boyd." "Really? What about you, how long did Bran have to convince you?" Brian asked looking into her eyes. "He didn't." Han smiled at Bri as he moved them around the dance floor. Next: Chapter 6 |
