Hugh Talks Van Helsing and X-Men 3
Q: How will it feel to bounce between franchises with this and the X-Men?
Jackman: Well, um, I've got to admit I said that exact question to my agent and Universal. I said, 'Do you think maybe I shouldn't be in both of them?' He said, 'I think this is the first time in history I've had an actor worry about being in two successful franchises.' And course, that's a good point. If they're good movies and people want to see them and want to see another, you know, then... why not? 9/17/03 From Various Sources:
Good/bad news everyone. According
to Playbill, "Jackman Oklahoma! DVD Release Pushed Back to Nov.
18. The title has also been expanded to a
two-disc set. The first disc will feature a
widescreen format and the second disc includes a
one-ho ur 'Making of" feature'". The Bad: the delay. The Good: the features! I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
Van Helsing TV spinoff!
Van Helsing isn't even out yet and already there
are plans for TV spinoff!--okay, maybe 'spinoff'
isn't the right word. More like "inspired". Yahoo
News reports that NBC and Universal are
teaming up to create Transylvania, "a
dramatic fantasy television series". Another article can found at E!
Online and two short ones at Mediadrome
and Comingsoon.

According to Autograph
Collector Online,
Hugh ranked #9 as the worst
autograph signer
The top 10 Worst Signers,
as listed in the October issue of Autograph
Collector, are Cameron Diaz, Bruce Willis,
Demi Moore, Orlando Bloom, Shannon Elizabeth,
Janet Jackson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Eric Bana,
Hugh Jackman and Christina Aguilera.
"Here is one that is a real disappointment.
From the start of his career with his breakthrough
role in X-Men, Jackman had always been a
signing machine. Even as his popularity continued
to rise, Hugh always seemed to be level headed and
very accommodating to fans. But then one day last
year it seemed that Hugh was in a bad mood and was
unwilling to sign autographs. Maybe it was just a
bad day? Well, that day has turned into about a
year and it seems that Hugh likes being on the
dark side! At one time Hugh had no problem signing
three or four autographs per person. Now it's a
challenge to get him to sign at all!"

Hugh Jackman is shaping up as the hottest new
theatrical star in the Big Apple." Sydney

that a combination of Jackman's name 'and perhaps
a hitherto long-hibernating legion of Peter Allen
enthusiasts' were behind the show's early box
office bounce." Be on the look out for

7/25/03 From Zap2it:
Liza Approves of Jackman playing her ex in musical
Hugh Jackman isn't worried about kissing guys -- he'll
be doing a lot of that. He isn't even worried
about his "X-Men" fans heckling him from
the audience. When Jackman takes the stage as the
lead in the musical "Boy from Oz" about
bis exual entertainer Peter Allen, he's worried
about how Allen's ex-wife Liza Minnelli will
react.

San Diego Comic-Con 2003!!
* From
Countingdown:
Hugh
Jackman looks very slick as gothic Vamp hunter
Abraham Van Helsing, who spent a lot of the
footage swinging around on ropes and swirling his
groovy black cape. His costume in general stood
out as an impressive accomplishment, even though
Jackman looked equally good in what appeared to be
a shirtless scene in the rain -- that boy works
out, I think.
* From DarkHorizons:
One of the other biggies was Stephen
Sommers monster epic which had the biggest panel
of the con along with some darn sweet footage. No
dialogue was seen and the music was Bram Stoker's
Dracula for a lot of it, but otherwise it was a
fast cut non-FX clip with some pretty revealing
stuff. Plenty of Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing
garb swinging down flying foxes or jumping around
in only
a loincloth Tarzan-style (* drools *) ...

* From
CHUD:
VanHelsing looks
big. With still nearly a year of post-production,
it's still reasonably safe to say I could tell
where the money went. The period costumes and set
design is certainly remarkable...
*
From AICN:
... What was screened looked
very impressive. I was kind of expe cting the campy
color scheme of the Mummy films, but I was totally
wrong. The cinematography is sharp and dark,
without a hint of a golden filter. The atmosphere
is thick, the action is intense... *A

From IndiaTimes: The
New Mutant Male
Today,
sociologists are blaming Beckham and his band of
brothers -- Ken Thorpe, Hugh Jackman, Tom Cruise,
Brad Pitt, Pat Rafter — for the birth of the New
Mutant: the Metrosexual male. He’s the man who
has a salmon pink shirt in his wardrobe, who
visits the hairdresser instead of the barber,
avoids using soap because it’s too harsh for the
skin, visits the gym instead of playing sport,
drinks in bars rather than pubs. But most
importantly, he dreams of growing old with his
wife and kids.

Encounter
with a fan
And
the geek mania is spreading beyond the young-adult
demographic. Actor Hugh Jackman, whose portrayal
of Wolverine in the "X-Men" films has
earned him a hallowed spot in the Geek Hall of
Fame, says his most memorable encounter with a fan
came while he was dining with his wife at a
restaurant in New York, where he met Vinnie, the
restaurant's manager." He
was literally ducking behind this little booth,
looking at me," Jackman says. "Ten minutes it
took him to come and see me. I said,
'Nice to meet you, Vinnie. Are you a fan?' He looked at me
and said, 'Am I a fan?' There was a
silence, and then he took his shirt off in the
middle of his restaurant and turned around, and he
had a full color tattoo of Wolverine on his back.
And he goes, 'AM I A FAN?' He got down on his
knees and said, 'Thank you for the film! I love
the film! It's fantastic!"'
