2/16/04 From Comingsoon: Simon Wincer Helming an Overflow "Director Simon Wincer will next helm Clancy of the Overflow, an Australian western inspired by a key character in 1982 hit film The Man From Snowy River... Jack Thompson portrayed Clancy, a crack horseman, in the "Snowy River" film based on the poem by bush bard "Banjo" Paterson. Producer Mark Pennell declined to confirm reports to Variety that he's talking to Hugh Jackman about playing the lead role." Source: Variety 2/9/04 From NYNewsday: More Casting Rumors for Sunset Boulevard "That
Liza Minnelli is still the top choice to play Norma Desmond in a screen
version of the musical 'Sunset Boulevard.' That Hugh Jackman will be her
writer/hustler Joe Gillis, and Martin Scorsese would like to direct. (Scorsese
worked with Liza in the dazzling but unsuccessful 'New York, New York.')
No matter what swirls around her, Liza remains steady and ready for her
close-up." Two movie rumors: 2/4/04 From AICN *Sunset Boulevard "...That's why so much emphasis is being put on finding a big star to play the male lead of Joe Gillis. Russell Crowe, Robert Downey, Jr and Ewan McGregor are all on the list but far and away the favourite is Hugh Jackman who played the role in Sydney. It is felt that as well has having the lungs to pull off the singing, he will be a big attraction to those who liked him as Wolverine." *Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"Apart from the obvious good singing voice, the next main attribute that is considered vital for playing Joseph is looking good with your shirt off so not surprisingly Hugh Jackman is in the running again along with Brad Pitt and Mark Wahlberg.."
1/1/04 From Darkhorizons: Jackman Seeks the "Romulus" Heritage "...Hugh Jackman might be making a new Australian film his main priority for 2004. Jackman is in talks to star in Romulus, My Father, which marks the direcrotial debut of actor Richard Roxburgh, who co-stars alongside Jackman in the upcoming Van Helsing.... In the film, Jackman would play Romulus Gaita, a migrant who found little luck in the land down under. He had to cope with his wifes waning infirmity, her continual disloyalty and her neglect of their son. Tragic events were non-stop, but throughout it all, Romlus remained an honest, good-man, who put on the bravest, strongest face for his son."
7/18/03 From Zap2it: Rumors about Sweeney Todd "After the success of last year's "Chicago," studios are now casting their eyes at theatrical adaptations to find the next movie musical. The musical centers on a barber who kills his clients for cash while his accomplice uses their remains for her meat pies. Although no one is attached to star yet, speculation is buzzing around Hugh Jackman. Jackman, star of the "X-Men" films and the upcoming "Van Helsing" is a fan favorite to play the demon barber of Fleet Street. Besides proving to be an accomplished Australian musical theater actor, Jackman's turn as the adamantium claw-wielding Wolverine in "X-Men" demonstrates the ruthless throat-slashing skills necessary to play the murderous barber." *Also, another related article from Playbill
7/17/03 From SeaCoasOnline: The Da Vinci Code "I wrote Robert Langdon out of my imagination with no actor in mind. For me there is no actor who is exactly right," Brown says. Tom Cruise bid for the rights with the hope of playing Langdon himself. Other names like George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes and even Denzel Washington have popped up in negotiations."The name that I like best is Hugh Jackman," Brown says of the Australian actor/heartthrob who has "a flawless American accent. 'Kate and Leopold' is the movie that I saw with him and it sold me. When I saw that I went out and got everything he was in."
7/6/03 From Herald Sun News: Clancy Unmasked "Now, a $30 million movie on Clancy's life, with Hugh Jackman in the title role, is in the pipeline. Jackman is believed to have beaten Russell Crowe, a fan of Paterson, for the part..."
6/30/03 From Countingdown.com: Hugh Jackman - The Next Man of Steel? One of Batman on Film's 'best sources' sent them this tidbit: FYI: Heard a rumour that WB were sniffing around Hugh Jackman for 'Superman' -- better than any other suggestion I've heard so far.
5/28/03 From Moviehole.net: Sir Edmund Hillary Writer Tom "Scott’s a lot happier that Jackman’s name is being branded about as a possible star, rather than the names that have been mentioned before." [Sir Hillary is the guy who climbed Mt. Everest. Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings earlier expressed interest in this project] *You can see Hillary's pic here.
5/16/03 From TheAge: Jackman Set for Biblical Epic The

5/10/03 From SuperHeroHype: A Bill Bixby Biopic Hugh claims that he and Bryan Singer are considering doing a Bill Bixby movie next, saying, "Bryan pointed me in the way of Bill Bixby's story and i just fell in love with it. It is one of the most moving stories i can imagine."
4/28/03 From SuperHeroHype: Hugh Jackman Talks X3 & The Bill Bixby Story "...one
project dear to my heart and I hope I can make is The Bill Bixby Story. I
have been writing the script for this for five months. Bryan (Singer),
first told me about Bill Bixby when we where making X2 and I was keen to
find out more about him, I only vaguely knew him from The Hulk TV
series, and the more I found out the more I knew that I wanted to do a
movie about him. His story is so moving and sincere, he was a remarkable
performer and person, with, like all of us a dark side, and a lot of
tragedy in his life. This is the kind of film I want to do after months of
doing the action and adventure. Call it a chance for me to exercise my
deeper emotions if you will."
