Welcome to the Personal Homepage of Naoto and Kirsten!

In March 2002, Naoto and Kirsten moved from Alameda, California to Chiba, Japan. Kirsten was employed as a college professor of English as a Second Language at Josai Kokusai University. Naoto was staying at home with our daughter.

As of January, 2004, we switched roles! Naoto became the breadwinner. He was a salaryman in Tokyo at a Canadian company. Kirsten was the stay at home mom. Now, in 2005, Naoto's found a job with a Japanese company in Portland, Oregon, and we bought a house in Beaverton!

My father was kind enough to make a webpage/journal of all the emails I had been sending to my friends and family about life in Japan. It's being hosted by my step-mother's graphic design company, LINDAMAX. Now I also am writing down thoughts more in tune with my life as a stay at home mom in the U.S. at my web journal here.

Here are links to a trip to Japan that we took in the winter of 2000. Have fun reading about how Kirsten met ALL of Naoto's relatives in ONE WEEK.

We will start putting up pictures of all the hikes we are taking around the bay area. We don't have anything for Stinson Beach and Mt. Tamalpais yet, unfortunately. Also, we forgot to take our camera to Sunol Regional Park where we saw "Little Yosemite", but we didn't forget the camera when we went to Uvas Canyon Regional Park and saw Four gorgeous waterfalls.
In September of 2000 we took the ferry from Alameda to Angel Island, northwest of Alcatraz. Angel Island has an interesting history because it was not only a federal prison, quarantine area for returning World War II troops, a military base, and cattle ranch, but it was also the "Ellis Island" of the West. During the infamous "Chinese Exclusion Act" period, hundreds of thousands of Chinese stayed for varying lengths of time on this island under almost prison-like conditions.
In October of 2000 we took a hike in Big Basin Redwoods State Park . In this 11 mile hike we saw THREE beautiful waterfalls and about fifteen ugly yellow slugs. After the hike we stayed in Lost Gatos, a cute little town populated by clones.
In December of 2000 we drove all the way to Seattle to visit my brother for the holidays. On the way we stopped at Columbia River Gorge and Redwoods National Park in California . Among our various adventures we saw big trees, wrote banana slug haikus, and crossed the Bridge of the Gods.
In May of 2001, Naoto and I (four months pregnant)flew back to Tokyo to see his family and go to one of his best friend's wedding. Not only did we get to see a full-on Japanese ceremony, but we visited a sweet potato town and saw a statue of a wise man picking his nose.
In November of 2002, the Suzuki/Lincoln family finally overcame Mia's aversion to cars and took a little day trip to Choshi, a port town near where we are living in Chiba, Japan. There were sunfish and chrysanthemums, and giant windmills!
