Ø Held monthly tournaments in eleven months of 2006. Outdoor venues were used as soon as weather permitted, our favorite being Flat Top Park in West Richland. This venue gives us a gazebo for shade, as well as outlets for plugging in our cooking equipment. The city also allows us to set up an archery range so a full tournament can be run.
Ø RadCon – We held a one-hour combat demonstration that was as well received as usual. Several members held panels on various subjects, and had their bios printed in the RadCon program. The group bio was also listed. The fan table display included group heraldry, and the photo board.
Ø The Informational Meeting held as follow up to RadCon brought in three new members.
Ø Tournament of Fools III was held at Flat Top Park. The weather was beautiful for this early outdoor event.
Ø Whitman Renaissance Faire. Members of both kingdoms gave a combat demonstration. We also gave a games demonstration, debuting the Giant Nine Man’s Morris game.
Ø In early May we held an archery Tournament to catch up on the events we couldn’t hold over the winter.
Ø Mid May saw an attempt at a campout. The weather brought a sudden storm that soaked everything in sight. Between this and a bad experience with volunteer park staff overstepping their authority, we gave up on the campout, and it turned it a backyard tournament at Sir Mathe and Dame Juliana’s humble abode.
Ø Ye Merrie Greenwood Renaissance Faire demonstrations were again organized by Paladias. We were assigned our best location at the faire to date, and were very grateful. The trees and the river kept us a lot cooler than past Faires. Participants from both kingdoms gave two combat demonstrations each day. Two Knightings were held, one of them in public. The second brought Queen Roselyn of Forspirata before Queen Juliana of Paladias to receive her first knighting, even though she had been there by points for several months. Craft demonstrations and the Giant Nine Mans Morris game were done in camp. The addition of the canvas “walls” created by the members of both Kingdoms was well received by the Greenwood organizers. More have been requested for next year.
Ø In August a campout was held, using the same park as the War of the Daffodils. This weekend was much cooler, and being the final campout of a long hot summer, it ended up a very relaxed event with much sitting and socializing. Saturday afternoon brought time for the second coronation in the history of Paladias. Sir Birka Kveld-Ulf became King in front of an audience of campers.
Ø The December event was not a tournament, but our business meeting and Michaelmas Feast. At this event we had our third annual home-made-gift exchange. It is always entertaining to see what our members make to trade.
Ø First Night TriCities was a new event for Paladias. We gave a half-hour combat demonstration that was well received, and highly enjoyable for us. Since this was a paid event, we hope to participate again.
We look forward to increasing our future demonstrations, and finding more venues.
Another member of Paladias, Sir Dabhaid Bowmont, attained his Knighthood this year, but due to distance, his ceremony will be held at a later date.
