Patty Murphy

I would like to pass along a bit of sad news to all “Up the Holler” readers for two reasons. My aunt (Patty Murphy) has just been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and has been given a very short time to live. Actually as of today she is pretty much past sitting up or talking so we don’t have a lot of time to put together a video tribute to be played at a service for her.

I am asking everyone to help me out with the video by sending to me any stories you would like to share especially anything funny or when she was working on something along with you and you can share it with us or maybe she was one of your teachers and she did something that made a difference in your life or you might just have a neat picture of her or even better a picture of her and some of you in it with her….Don’t forget to add the names of everyone in pictures and sign your name to any notes or short letters about something she did or didn’t do….Also, if possible add the date to any of the above

Thank you so much and if anyone might have any questions please call me (850) 309-0458 or email me at lynn.jackson@uky.edu.

Also, you can send the pictures, letters and anything else you might think of to my email and I want you all to know how much your help means to all of us.

Would Like Info on David Sullen Spencer

I’m not from Wayland, but my father was born there in 1919. My father’s birth certificate states that his father was a policeman. My Dad died in 1960, so I never had a chance to ask him about his father. My uncles, all deceased, said my grandfather (their father) was a sheriff, mine detective, US Marshal, etc., so I’m not sure what to believe. Perhaps he did all that, but my grandfather is a mystery. In my genealogy research, I’ve learned more about my great-great-great-grandfather Spencer than about my own grandfather.

My grandfather was David Sullen Spencer, Sr. (my Dad was David, Jr.). Do you have any idea where in Wayland I may be able to research his background? Yours is one of the few sites I’ve been able to find with any personal information. I’d appreciate any help you can offer.

Many thanks,
Terri Spencer

I am looking for any info regarding an old childhood friend of mine....her name is Terry Lynn Creager Johnson. She is the daughter of Garner & Gilda Belle Creager and married Edward (Roonie) Johnson, and last I heard they lived right outside Wayland but that's been years ago. I would really love to reconnect with her. Please let me know if you have any info...

Keith, would you please post a couple of pictures from the 1958 class reunion held at the WHS building back in October. Our class celebrated our 50th.We had a wonderful turnout although some were unable to attend due to sickness and other commitments. also nine are deceased.

The reunion was a joyful event as many classmates had not seen each other since graduation. A nice lunch was served and lots of pictures and stories were shared. The class will be planning future gatherings. I would like to thank all my classmates for their attendance.

Thank you,
Rebecca Hall Honn
