"Battle of Nori Nanba"
Chapter 9
Nori Nanba and her mother leave the cave at sunrise just as she said they would, as the morning drifts in to afternoon, Yoshi starts to act a little strange.
"What is it mother?! You have been looking around us for the last few hours, are we lost?" Nori asks her.
"No we are not lost, we are being followed..." She tells her.
"Are you sure mother?" Nori asks her.
"Yes, they are very good at staying hidden and I have not been able to see them yet, but I know he or they are out there." Her Mother says.
"Do you think it is Grandfather's men?" Nori asks her.
"No, they are not this good. I would have seen them as soon as I started to get this feeling." She says.
"Well what or who do you think is following us." Nori asks her.
"I am not sure; I just want you to be ready if something happens."
Nori Nanba looks at her mother, "All right I can do that."
"Nori,"
"Yes mother..."
"That is the most you have spoke all morning, what is wrong?" She asks her.
"Oh, nothing really, I am just thinking about last night." Nori replies.
"What happened last night?” Her mother asks.
"Well when I was at the hot spring I thought I was being watched, I heard a noise, but when I turned around there was nothing there and when I went outside the cave to look at the night sky, I felt like I was being watched again."
Her mother, not sure of what might be going on, but she tells Nori Nanba, “Stay on guard for anything out of the ordinary.”
As they keep walking Nori Nanba tells her mother, "It is getting later in the day and I am starting to get hungry, can we stop for something to eat mother?"
"Of course we can, why did you not say something sooner if you were hungry?" Her Mother asks her.
"I want to hurry and get to were we need to be, so I thought I might be able to make it, but this ache in my stomach is getting too bad." She tells her mother.
Her mother laughs, "Lets stop here," she says, "I will build the fire and you go see if you can find some berries or fruit to eat, I saw a few apple trees through here, so it should not be to hard to find something."
Nori Nanba goes off to find some fruit for her mother and herself. While she is looking, she comes across an apple tree and starts to pick a few of the apples, she thinks, “I will get a few for lunch and a few more for the remainder of the trip, these apples will make a great snack.”
Walking a little farther, she comes across a bush full of berries, "Yum," she says, “These look great.” She takes her scarf off and lays it on the ground in front of the bush, she hears a noise, but does not pay close attention to it, she was to busy with the berries.
While she is picking the berries from the bush she hears the noise again, but it sounds closer to her now, she looks around to see if there was anything there, she sees nothing, “I had better hurry, I may not be safe here to much longer.” She says aloud.
As she stands to walk back to her mother, she turns and starts to walk away from the bush; a huge bear comes crashing out of the bushes in front of her.
She is looking at the bear, "What do I do?!” Nori thinks, “I cannot run past him to get to my mother for help and I do not think she would hear me if I were to yell for her."
The bear starts walking towards her, turning back around she starts to run away from the bear and further away from her mother. As she is running and her heart racing, she is scared for her life. She comes to a clearing that has a wall of rock blocking her way, she can run no further, she spins around to see the bear is all most right on top of her, she closes her eyes knowing this is the end. Her life is flashing before her eyes and she wished that she could have seen Lord Sesshomaru once more before she dies.
As a few seconds pass, knowing the bear should have all ready been tearing her apart, she opens her eyes to see the bear dead right at her feet.
She looks around seeing no one she calls out, “Is someone out there, where are you and thank you so much for stopping the bear, I owe you my life. Please show yourself so I can thank you properly."
Still no one comes out to greet her. She walks back to her mother, knowing that someone is watching her every step, but she knows that she is safe with them watching her. Getting back to her mother, she starts to tell her mother what happened and how the bear was stopped just before he attacked her.
“I opened my eyes mother and the bear was right there. If the person or what ever killed it would have been just a second slower, I would be dead right now.” Nori says.
"Well," her mother says, "Sounds like you have a guardian angel at your side."
"I do not know about an angel, but I defiantly have a guardian of some kind," Nori Nanba says. They finish their lunch, pack everything up, and get back to their trip to the hut.
"You look happy Nori," her mother says, "Yes, I feel happy to be alive, I had a narrow escape back there, and I was given a second chance. I just wish I knew who killed the bear, I would like to thank them." Nori replies.
"They know you are thankful and I think you know who killed the bear."
She stops looks over at her mother and smiles, "do you really think it was him?"
"Yes, I do..." Her Mother says.
"Why would you say that mother?" Nori asks her.
"Because you have not said a word about him all day, so that tells me he is close to you. You can feel his presence like if he was right beside you, his feelings have grown stronger for you, and they call him to you. He stays hidden because he is not ready to confront you with them." Her mother smiling at her as she starts walking again.
Nori Nanba looks around in the forest as she does she says, "Thank you Lord Sesshomaru, Thank you so very much." Turning she walks quickly to catch up with her mother.
The sun is starting to set and Nori Nanba asks her mother, “How much further to the hut mother?"
"Just ahead," she tells her, "We will be there very soon and then we can rest and get something to eat."
"Yum, food," Nori Nanba says, "Those apples did not last long and I am starting to get hungry again."
"You eat like your father young lady; I am surprised you are still as thin as you are." Her Mother tells her.
"Me too," Nori Nanba says, as they laugh. They make it to the hut and go inside to rest.
"So mother, when will we get started on me learning my powers?" Nori asks her.
"First thing tomorrow morning we will get started on them, tonight I want to see what kind of powers you posses." Her Mother tells her.
"How will you do that mother?" Nori asks her.
"You will see, let’s get something to eat and cleaned up first." Her Mother replies.
As the night drifted on, Yoshi finally called to Nori Nanba. "Nori come here dear."
"Yes mother coming." Nori walks back in the hut from outside.
"Sit here in front of me please Nori."
Nori Nanba sits in front of her mother, facing her, "All right now what?" Nori Nanba says.
"Take my hands and look into my eyes, I want you to open your mind to me, let me in your mind to see what powers you posses." Says her mother.
"All right, I think I can do that." Nori Nanba says.
As she takes her mothers hands and clears her mind, thinking of nothing but her powers. Her mother and her look into each other's eyes.
"All right then," her mother says.
"Were done all ready?!" Nori exclaims.
"Yes," her mother says.
"Gees that did not take very long." Her mother looks at her.
"We have been setting here for a little over an hour," her mother said.
"WHAT!" Nori Nanba said, "Have we really?!" Getting up from the floor.
"Yes," her mother said, "You have two more powers then I do and when I found the second one, I thought I needed to look deeper to see if there might be more hiding somewhere else."
“Two more then you, how did that happen," Nori Nanba asks.
"Well when a child is born to power, they take on their mother or fathers powers and they will have at least one from one or the other parent. However, your father is human he has no powers." Her Mother says.
"Very true..." Nori says, "So where did I get the other two powers from?"
Her mother turns, smiling at her, “Your Grandmother…"
"Huh… how did that happen?" Nori Nanba asks.
"They were passed on to you through me dear." Her Mother tells her.
"Why such the big smile mother?" Nori Nanba trying to figure out why her mother is so happy.
"Because this means you are more of a Goddess than human."
Nori Nanba, stumbling backwards falls to the floor. "You mean, I... I am a Goddess."
"It looks that way, you have very little human in you." Her Mother says still smiling.
"What does that mean for me mother?"
Yoshi tells her, "Your powers will be much stronger than I thought they would be, because of you being half-human they should not be that strong, but you have more Goddess in your blood than human, so your powers will be almost as strong as mine."
"Is that good mother?" Nori asks her.
"Yes it is very good." Yoshi tells her.
"All right then, now what mother?" Nori asks her.
"I need to go speak with your Grandmother." Her Mother tells her.
"Why is that?"
“Well the other two powers you have, I cannot teach you about them, only she can, they are hers and I do not know how to use them." Her Mother explains.
"Will Grandfather let her and will she teach me?"
Yoshi laughs, "Your Grandfather will not know and yes, she will be over joyed to hear her granddaughter has two of her powers."
Nori Nanba smiles at her mother, "I will get to meet my Grandmother I cannot wait. So mother will you tell me what powers I have of yours and Grandmothers?"
"Yes, come here and sit so we can talk about it." Her Mother tells her. Nori goes to her Mother and sits in front of her again.
"You have five powers; one is to make men fall in love with you, one to cast spells of any kind, and the other one of mine is to make someone forget." She tells Nori.
"What about Grandmothers..."
Yoshi laughs, "You’re going to like these two, one is to commutate with people through your mind and the other is to transport your image to them and not really be there, but they think you are."
"Really," Nori Nanba says, "That sounds neat."
"Once you get comfortable with your powers, you will like them all a lot better." As her mother gets up from the floor, "All right then, you get to bed, we have a big day tomorrow, and I need to go see your Grandmother. I will be back soon, but not too late, I hope."
"All right mother, I will see you in the morning then, goodnight mother." Nori tells her.
"Goodnight Nori." Her Mother calls back walking out.
The next morning, her mother awakens her. "Come on sleepy head, you going to sleep all day or get up so we can get started?"
Nori Nanba sits up in bed looking at her mother, "Why are you in such a good mood today?"
"Your Grandmother is coming to spend a few days here with us and your Grandfather has put his pride aside finally and stopped the ridiculous hunt to make my life hell." Her Mother tells her.
"Huh," Nori Nanba says, "Grandfather is going to let you come home to father and me."
Her mother overjoyed walks up to Nori Nanba, puts her arms around her, and says, "YES, your Grandfather is going to let me come home to be with you and your father. Do you think your father will be happy?"
"Happy! He will be so happy he won't know what to say or do for a week," as Nori Nanba laughs and a tear rolls down her cheek, "I cannot believe you finally get to come home mother. This is the best day of my life ever," Nori Nanba says.
"Well then, let us make the best of it and get started on your teachings." Her mother starts her off with how to make a man fall in love with her and how to reverse it as well.
As the day moves on well past afternoon, they take a break getting something to eat. While they are eating, Nori Nanbas' Grandparents walk through the door.
"Mother, Father," Yoshi jumps up to greet them and give them both hugs.
"Nori this is your Grandmother Usagi Yamada and your Grandfather Masakazu."
Nori getting up to go greet them, she says, "Hello Grandmother, Grandfather."
Her Grandfather takes her in his arms and says, “I was an old fool and I am sorry for keeping your mother away from you all these years.”
Her Grandmother smiles, "He can be a big softy when he wants to be," and gives Nori Nanba a hug as well.
They all sit down to enjoy their lunch and talk about old times and new beginnings. When they were done Yoshi and Nori’s Grandmother starts on teaching Nori Nanba about her powers, while her Grandfather sat and watched and got a good laugh out of a few lessons.
"Nori," her Grandfather called.
"Yes, Grandfather..."
"You have grown to be a beautiful young woman my dear and your mother tells me you have fallen in love."
"Yes, Grandfather I have at least that is what I am told is that I have fallen in love."
He laughs, "What you have been told, you mean you do not know if you are in love."
"Well I have never been in love Grandfather, so no not really. I just know I cannot stop thinking about him and the desire I have to be with him is ready to erupt inside of me." She tells him.
He laughs, "My dear sweet granddaughter, I can see it written all over your face when you are talking about him, you are truly in love with his man."
She smiles at her grandfather, "I just hope he loves me as well, Grandfather."
"He will, no man can resist my Granddaughter, spell or no spell, he would be a fool to let you get away my dear."
As her mother and Grandmother are walking out of the hut her mother says, "Well I think we are done for the day, we will get started again first thing in the morning."
"Well then I will get back to where I am needed and let you women, do what you need to get done," Nori Nanbas Grandfather says.
He gets up giving everyone a hug, and says, "I will see you in a few days from now and I wish you luck Nori Nanba with your lessons."
"Thank you Grandfather," she says, "and goodbye, I will see you in a few days."
"How long do you think this will take?" He asks his daughter and wife.
"Well she is doing very well, I would have to say maybe three or four more days, and she will be comfortable with them." Her Grandmother says.
"Good, good," he says, "You are like your mother Nori, "A quick learner.” He gives hugs once more and he leaves.
As the days pass, Nori Nanba is starting to get very comfortable with all her powers. On the fifth day Nori Nanba walks outside to where her mother and Grandmother are sitting talking.
"What are you two talking about?" She asks them.
"Well we are going into the village the three of us..." Her Mother says.
"Why," Nori Nanba asks, "Do we need things for the house?"
"No, we need a man," Her grandmother says.
"We need a man?!" Nori Nanba exclaims.
"Yes, one you can try your powers on to see if you can really control them and then once we find that out we want you to contact your father and let him know we will be coming home tomorrow. That is IF you succeed in making a man fall in love with you and then reversing it as well.” Her Grandmother says.
“Your spells you have done great with." Her mother says, "And as you get older, you will learn many more as you go through life."
"Well then, what are we waiting for, I want to go home to father I miss him and I want to tell him the good news that mother and I are coming home to him. Let us go find me a man." Nori Nanba says.
Her mother and Grandmother laugh as Nori Nanba realized what she said she starts to turn red.
Coming back to the hut from the village, her Grandmother says, "You did great Nori, I think you did better then your mother did the first time out."
"Really, why what happen when mother tried the first time?" she asked.
"Well," her Grandmother said, "She got the young man to fall in love with her, but she did not reverse the spell all the way, so she had him following her like a lost puppy all day until she finally got it to reverse on him."
"He was really starting to get on my nerves," her mother said. "I wanted to choke him." Nori Nanba laughs.
"When we get back to the hut I can try to contact father right?" Nori asks.
"Of course dear, I do not think you will have a problem with it. You have talked with your Grandfather a few times and showed yourself to him a few times as well. Therefore, as long as you concentrate on your father he will see and hear you as well.
Just remember he is human not a God so he will be a little harder to contact with him having no powers."
"All right, I will do a good job and not let you down, Grandmother." Nori tells her.
"I know you will not, my dear. After all, you are MY Granddaughter," as she smiles at Nori Nanba.
When they get back to the hut, Nori Nanba sits with her mother and Grandmother. She starts to contact her father and it does not work.
Her Grandmother says, “Concentrate harder my dear.”
She finally makes contact with her father. Happy to see him and over joyed to talk with him, she tells him all about her time away and that they are coming home tomorrow. Her father is excited to get the news, and glad he will be seeing them soon.
She tells her father the best news as well, "Father... Mother is coming home to stay."
"Home to stay," he says, he pauses as a tear rolls down his cheek. "Yoshi, my love, you finally get to come home."
Yoshi looks at her mother, "She told him I am coming home, I can feel his joy and I have not felt him this happy in year's mother," as she too starts to cry.
