“Curse or God Sent” Chapter 7
‘The Truth Comes Out’


Later on that day, Laney knocks on the door of the boy’s room. “Who is it?” Hakkai asks.

“It’s Laney.” Laney calls out.

“Come on in Laney.” Gojyo says Laney walks in the room looking around seeing the boy’s sitting playing cards.

“Hey Laney what’s wrong you look really upset?” Goku tells her.

“Where are those two, it has been hours since we have seen them it is going to be lunch soon.” Laney says.

Gojyo smiles turning in his chair, “Well you know she is probably just fulfilling her girly duties of pleasing her man.”

Laney looks at Gojyo “You are such a pervert.”

“Hey Gojyo that was just gross, what kind of girl do you think Nori is anyway.” Goku says.

Gojyo laughs as he mumbles, “The type of girl that does not want to lose 20 yen.”

“20 yen… what are you talking about Gojyo?” Hakkai asks him. Laney looks at Gojyo with a look of ‘Please don’t tell him.’ Hakkai looks at Laney wondering what is going on.

“It is nothing Hakkai just a little bet that Nori and I have going.” Gojyo replies.

“I do not like the sound of that.” Hakkai says getting up from the table.

“Where you going Hakkai?” Goku asks him.

“For a walk with Laney, we will be back later.” Hakkai tells them. Hakkai places his hand on Laney’s back as he leads her out the door closing it behind them.


Meanwhile Hakkai and Laney are walking through the village when Hakkai finally breaks the silence between them.

“Laney what is wrong? I know something is bothering you I can see it in your eyes.” Hakkai says. Laney looks at Hakkai and gives a half smile.

“I will be fine Hakkai I just have a lot of things on my mind, and I feel like we are running out of time.” Laney tells him.

“WE… you mean you and Nori?” Hakkai asks her.

Laney nods, “How are you running out of time, what is it that you and Nori are trying to do Laney.” Hakkai asks.

Laney shakes her head and cast her eyes downward. Hakkai stops and steps in front of her as he gently lifts her head to look at her.

“Laney… you know if you are in trouble or anything…” Hakkai tells her.

“No it is nothing like that Hakkai. It is just… well…” Laney was cut off by Hakkai pulling Laney to a bench so they could sit and talk. Hakkai places his hands on Laney’s shoulders and guides her to sit down as he takes a seat next to her. Hakkai takes Laney’s hand and looks into her eyes.

“Look Laney I know something is going on with you and Nori and I know you two are either look for something or running from something. What ever it may be we can help you.” Hakkai tells hers. A tear rolls down Laney’s cheek as she smiles at Hakkai.

“I wish that was true Hakkai, but even with Nori’s power I do not even think we can help ourselves with what we will have to go up against.” Laney tells him.

“Nori is strong and has a will to fight like Goku; I think you two will be fine anyone that apposes Nori is looking for trouble.” Hakkai replies.

“I wish that was true Hakkai, Nori is strong, yes, but I have been noticing things about her the last few days that has me worried, and like I said what we have to go up against… I do not think Nori will be able to handle it.” Laney says. Hakkai laughs at Laney.

“You make it sound like you are going up against a God Laney.” Hakkai says still chuckling. Laney hangs her head as she wrings her hands in her lap. Hakkai gets a shocked look on his face as he reaches for Laney’s hands.

Just as he places, his hand over Laney’s a teardrop from her cheek landing on Hakkai’s hand. He places his other hand under Laney’s chin lifting her head and looking into her tear filled eyes.

“You’re going after a God?” Hakkai asks Laney in a very concerned tone. Laney looks deep into Hakkai’s eyes. Laney nods slightly as another tear rolls down her cheek.

“Laney why… that’s crazy, do you even know what kind of power they possess…” Hakkai pauses looking down at the ground then back up at Laney, “That’s why you were asking the questions about Homura?” Laney nods her head again.

“Laney please tell me what is going on so we can help you two.” Hakkai tells her.

Laney looks at Hakkai and smiles, “Would you really do that Hakkai?” Laney asks him.

“We will do everything in our power to help you Laney I promise you that.” Hakkai tells her softly caressing her cheek. Laney smiles at him and starts to tell Hakkai the story of her and Nori’s quest for Yukihiko.

While back with Sanzo and Nori, we find Nori lying on her stomach playing with a blade of grass that she has picked while Sanzo is laying on his back next to her with his arms crossed under his head looking up at the afternoon sky. Nori and Sanzo are having a discussion about the adventures they have been on.

“So you’re telling me that there has not been one opponent that you have not defeated in all this time, not one that has gave you such a hard time you almost gave up?” Nori asks Sanzo.

“We do not know the words ‘Give Up’.” Sanzo tells Nori. “But I will tell you that we have come across some tough customers in our time, and we do get our butts kicked from time to time it is not like we come out of these fights unscathed.” Sanzo tells her.

“So between the demons and Gods you have fought which would you say was the toughest?” Nori asks him. Sanzo chuckles rolling over to look at Nori, he props his head up on his hand as he looks at her.

“You tell me who you think was the toughest?” Sanzo asks her.

Nori looks over at Sanzo as he pulls her hair back from her neck and shoulder kissing her shoulder, “Well I would have to say the Gods would have to be the toughest to go up against.”

Sanzo looks at Nori and smiles, “Why all the questions Nori?”

“I am just curious about the stories and you guys and if they are really true. I mean there are so many stories out there about the Sanzo Party. I just want to know which ones are true and which ones are false.” Nori tells him.

“Really now?” Sanzo says as he kisses her neck, Nori shivers as his lips touch her neck, “You cold?” Sanzo asks her as he kisses her again. Nori’s skin tingles from the touch of his lips to her neck.

“No…” Nori smiles at him, “For some reason every time you touch me you make my body tingle.”

Sanzo chuckles, “Good Chi between us I would have to say.”

“Oh is that what is it?” Nori says laughing. Sanzo moves closer to her as he rolls her over to her back and leans over the top of her.

Nori looks into Sanzo’s eyes and smiles, “One more questions Sanzo and then I will stop.” Nori tells him.

Sanzo kisses her lips, “One more and then it is my turn.” Sanzo says.

“Your turn… your turn for what?” Nori asks him.

“To see how long I can shut you up again, I am shooting for at least 3 hours this time.” Sanzo tells her.

Nori laughs at him, “You’re so bad Sanzo.” Nori tells him as they smile and kiss once more.

Sanzo pulls away from her, “Ok ask your question.” Sanzo said to her.

“Is it true what they say about you are you really…” Nori was cut off by Sanzo.

“Yes, it is true.” Sanzo says.

“You did not let me finish Sanzo you do not even know what I was going to ask you. I could have been asking you if you were gay as far as you know.” Nori tells him. Sanzo lifts away from her with a shocked look on his face as Nori laughs at him.

“GAY… I think you know the answer to that one. Ok fine then finish your question.” Sanzo tells her. “Are you a God Sanzo?” Nori asks him. Sanzo pauses as he looks deep into her eyes and sits up next to her.

“Why would you ask that Nori?” Sanzo asks her Nori pushes herself up to sit next to him.

“They say that is how you and the others defeat all these demons and the Gods, and I have to agree with them Sanzo. How can you defeat something that has powers beyond yours if you yourself are not as strong as them or one of them?” Nori says in an inquiring tone.

“Me and the others you say?” Sanzo says.

“Yes you, Hakkai and Gojyo. I was told you three were at one time Gods.” Nori tells him.

Sanzo looks at Nori, “If I tell you we were not, would you believe me?” Sanzo asks her.

Nori gives Sanzo a look of doubt, “I did not think you would….” Sanzo sighs, “All right I will tell you what you want to know, if you tell me why you want to know this?” Sanzo tells her.

“Ok I can do that.” Nori tells him. Sanzo looks at her waiting for her answer.

“We are looking for a God; a God we were hoping you might know or know where we could find him. This God is the one that cursed mine and Laney’s families making us what we are today. I want to find him and get him to remove this curse so we can live a normal life and have children with the men we chose and our children will not have to live with this curse as we have.” Nori eyes start to burn as she feels tears starting to form in them; she holds them back as she finishes telling Sanzo what she and Laney are doing.

“We only want to live a normal life and not have to live like outcast and me always having to fight the curse to keep it from killing me, it is destroying my Chi and I can feel it slowly taking over… I am so afraid that one day it will completely take over and the only way I can be stopped then is to be killed, there is no limiter out there for the Last Child.” A tear finds its way down Nori’s cheek as she looks into Sanzo’s eyes.

“I do not want to die Sanzo, I want to live a long happy life, fall in love with a man that I want to spend the rest of my life with and have children. Is that too much to ask?” Nori says.

Sanzo wipes away her tear’s as he wraps his arms around her holding her close to him. Sanzo gently pulls back from Nori and looks into her eyes wiping away a few more tears that have found their way down her cheek.

“Who is this God you are looking for?” Sanzo asks her still holding her in his arms.

Nori looks at Sanzo and smiles, “His name is Yuki…”

Nori was cut off by someone speaking to them.


“Well isn’t this just a quaint little situation I have come across here. Looks like Sanzo has a girlfriend.” Sanzo looks up seeing Kougaiji standing a few yards from them. Nori then turns seeing him as well.

“N… Nori?!” Kougaiji says in a stunned tone.

“NORI!!” Lirin yells coming down from the trees she runs over to Nori as starts rambling as she throws her arms around her, “NORI!! OH MY GOD I HAVE NOT SEEN YOU IN FOREVER, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING AND WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN I HAVE MISSED YOU SO MUCH WE HAVE SO MUCH CATCHING UP TO DO…”

Sanzo looks at Nori saying, “You know them I take it?” Nori nods and smiles at Sanzo.

Lirin is still rambling when Kougaiji yells at her, “LIRIN!! Stop this and leave Nori alone.”

“But big brother we have not seen Nori in forever, I want to talk to her, and come to think of it…” Lirin looks at Sanzo and then back at Nori, “What are you doing with this stupid Monk Sanzo; you know he is a loser and all, what’s up with that? You need to come back and be with Kougaiji again, we had so much fun when you were going out with him.”

Anger starts to build inside of Sanzo as he looks at Nori and Lirin.

“LIRIN!! Get over here now!” Kougaiji yells at her.

“AWWWW I just want to talk to Nori, Kougaiji.” Lirin says as she walks back toward Kougaiji with her head hung down. Nori looks up seeing Jin and Yaone standing next to Kougaiji now.

Nori smiles and waves at them, “Hey Nori long time no see, I guess you have met my little brother since I see you are here with Sanzo?” Jin says.

“Yes I have and he is nothing like I have heard you talk about.” Nori tells Jin.

“HA, he is still a pain in the ass if you ask me.” Jin says laughing.

Nori looks over at Yaone, “Hi Nori how’s Laney?” Yaone asks.

“She is doing better then me right now.” Nori tells her as she stands to her feet.

“Is the curse starting to get stronger within you?” Yaone asks Nori, Nori nods with a sad look on her face as she dusts herself off. Sanzo is now standing next to Nori.

“I wish you would come back to us we can help you with your dilemma.” Kougaiji says to Nori in a concerned tone.

“Thank you Kougaiji, but you know I cannot do that this is something we have to do on our own…”

Nori was cut off as Sanzo yells out, “STOP THIS INFERNEL CHIT CHAT!!” Sanzo looks at everyone standing around. As he, grabs Nori by her arm and jerks her around to look at him.

“SANZO THAT HURTS!!” Nori yells at him.

“What do you want?” Sanzo says to her in an angered tone.

Nori jerks away from Sanzo, “I told you what I wanted, why are you being such an ass all of a sudden?” Nori scorns back at him.

“How do you know them, and what is your association with them now?” Sanzo asks her grabbing her arm again jerking her toward him.

“LET HER GO SANZO, I SWEAR IF YOU HURT HER I WILL…” Kougaiji was saying as Sanzo cut him off,

“You will what Kougaiji?” Just then, Sanzo pulls out his gun pointing it at Kougaiji and the others, still holding onto Nori’s arm.

“Sanzo stop this.” Nori says. Sanzo turns the gun on Nori.

“Not this noise again, I thought we were over this Sanzo?” Nori says in an irritated tone.

“Key word ‘we were’ until you lied to me.” Sanzo tells her.

Nori stands there feeling her rage start to build. Sanzo turns looking at Kougaiji then turns back looking at Nori. Nori drew back her hand and slapped Sanzo across the face hard enough that he stumbled. He went to pull the gun back up on Nori as she grabs it taking it away from him. Nori was enraged and very upset at Sanzo at this point. Sanzo looks at her and tries to grab her again as she moved away from him.

“I cannot believe you Sanzo… I never lied to you not once I just chose not to tell you what was going on and when I did tell you I did not lie to you, I told you the truth.” Nori tells him in an angered tone.

“Then why are they saying you need to come back!” Sanzo says.

“I use to go out with Kougaiji a long time ago it is not my fault that they want me to come back.” Nori replies hastily.

“Nori has nothing to do with us any longer Sanzo. She left me years ago for her own quest for that God that cursed her and Laney’s families. This is the first time we have seen her since she left me.” Kougaiji tells him.

Sanzo looks at Nori he can tell she is still very upset at him he whispers to her so no one can hear him, “I am sorry, we will finish this later.”

Nori’s anger starts to subside some as she smiles at Sanzo shaking her head, Sanzo looks at Kougaiji and the others, “What are you here for Kougaiji?” Sanzo asks him.

“You have to ask that Sanzo, what am I always after. We heard you were here so we thought we would pay you a visit and take it off your hands.” Kougaiji tells him.

“Well if you can tell I do not have it on me right at this moment, but I promise you the Maten scripture is hidden away safe.” Sanzo tells him.

“Well now that is good to hear I sure would hate for someone else to get my scripture.” Kougaiji replies.

“Kougaiji are you ever going to drop this and leave Sanzo and the others alone about the scripture. You know even if you get it; she is not going to release your mother as she said, think about it. Has she ever done what she told you she was going to do?” Nori asks him.

“Stay out of this Nori this is between me and Sanzo!” Kougaiji says.

“No this is between you and your step mother. You do her bidding for her in hopes you get your mother back that she froze in time. You even told me that you had doubts about her releasing your mother once she has released Gyumao with the scriptures.” Nori says.

“That was then things have changed since then.” Kougaiji says.

“Things have not changed Kougaiji you have just suckered yourself into believing her lies now, that is all you have done!” Nori says in a disgusted tone.

“YOU KNOW NOTHING NORI!! And if you are choosing to stand by Sanzo on this matter then you now too are my enemy!!” Kougaiji yells as he jumps attacking Nori and Sanzo. Sanzo pushes Nori aside as he jumps the other way to avoid the attack. Nori looks up as the dust settles around them; she sees Sanzo kneeling down looking around for Kougaiji and the others.

Nori stands, as she looks right at Jin, “I hope you do not take offence to this Nori, just following orders, you know how it goes.” Jin tells her as he attacks her.

Nori does a backhand spring away from Jin’s attack as she disappears into thin air, “None taken Jin, I am just sorry Kougaiji is too blind to see what is really happening here with his step mother and you all have to pay for it his stupidity.” Jin can hear her talking to him even though she cannot be seen.

“It is not stupidity Nori; she will release my mother once she has released Gyumao!” Kougaiji yells at Nori as he too is looking around for her.

“You’re a fool Kougaiji, if your step mother releases your mother. Your mother will kill her and your step mother knows this she will never release your mother.” Nori tells him as she steps out from behind a tree.

“What do you know?” Kougaiji whispers into Nori’s ear from behind her; Nori spins around as Kougaiji grabs a hold of her throat.

“NORI!!” Sanzo yells as he runs towards them. Nori puts out her hand to stop him as Yaone throws two of her bombs at Sanzo to stop him from getting to Nori and Kougaiji. As the dust settled around them Sanzo sees Kougaiji laying on the ground face down and Nori no where to be found,

“NORI!!” Sanzo yells again.

“I am fine Sanzo, do not worry about me none of them can defeat me and they know it. Kougaiji is the only one that can even come close to defeating me. ” Said Nori in an irritated tone,

“A lot has changed since we have fought last Nori.” Kougaiji says into the forest looking around for her.


While back in the village Hakkai seen Yaone bombs go off as he and Laney run back to the hotel to get the others.

Hakkai burst into the room, “Problems in the forest I am thinking Sanzo and Nori are being attacked by demons!!” Hakkai yells into the room.

Gojyo and Goku jump up and run from the room following Hakkai, “Hakkai were is Laney?” Goku asks as they we’re running down the hall of the hotel.

Hakkai looks around not seeing Laney anywhere, “OH NO!! She must have gone out there alone.” Hakkai says.

“Stupid women,” Gojyo says as they run from the building.

“We have to hurry she could get hurt!” Goku says. They all take off toward the forest as another bomb goes off.

Laney how ever is all ready out there calling for Nori, “Laney?!” Yaone says.

Laney spins around to see Yaone standing behind her, “Yaone!” Laney says, “Oh my God I did not think I would ever see you again. How is everyone?” Laney asks.

Just then, Lirin jumps down from a tree. “LANEY!!” Lirin yells grabbing her and giving her a hug.

“Hi Lirin.” Laney says, “EH, you think you could let me go you’re crushing me.”

Hakkai, Gojyo and Goku hear Laney‘s voice and follows it to her, “Oh, sorry Laney.” Lirin tells her as she lets her go.

“What is going on here?” Laney asks Yaone.

”Nori and Kougaiji are going at it, she made him mad, I do not know what he is mad about though it is either at her for being with Sanzo or her going on about his step mother.” Yaone told Laney.

“Nori hates that woman.” Laney said.

“I know she does.” Yaone replied.

“Yaone,” Hakkai said as he walked into the clearing were they were standing.

“Hi Hakkai, Gojyo, Goku,” Yaone says.

“What are you guys doing here?” Gojyo asks them.

“What do you think we are here for you big idiot.” Lirin said.

“Hey brat you better watch it.” Gojyo tells her.

“Look who is talking.” Jin says as he walks toward them.

Gojyo and Jin started in on one another.

“Ok Stop this guy’s we all know we are here and we know what is going on. What I want to know is… is Nori all right?” Laney asks Yaone or whichever one of them would answer her.

“She is fine you know Kougaiji would never hurt her he still loves her.” Jin tells Laney.

Hakkai, Gojyo and Goku look at Jin astonished with what he said.

“You mean Nori and Kougaiji was…”

Just then, everyone standing there hears Sanzo yell out for Nori. Yaone and Jin ran off in the direction they last knew they were in as the rest followed. When they get to the clearing were Sanzo was standing looking around he seen Hakkai and the others standing there.

“Where is Nori?!” Laney yells out to him.

“I do not know!!” Sanzo yells back. Goku sees Nori and Kougaiji above them as he takes off to help her.

“GOKU!!” Hakkai yells out.

Sanzo runs over to the others, “Is Nori all right Sanzo?” Laney asks him.

“She is fine, but she is starting to look wore down.” Sanzo says.

“We have to stop this… We have to stop this now… if Nori runs all her Chi down the curse will take over in her and there will be no stopping her.” Laney tells them.

“Where is Goku?” Sanzo asks them.

“He took off after Nori and Kougaiji.” Gojyo tell him.

Just then, Goku, Nori, and Kougaiji are standing in the clearing. Goku is standing in front of Nori, “Get lost Goku this is involving me and Nori now.” Kougaiji tells him.

“I won’t let you hurt Nori!” Goku says.

Kougaiji gets a look of malice on his face as he says, “Have it your way then I will remove you from the fight if that is the way you want it.” Kougaiji starts to chant calling upon his dragon power.

Nori pushes Goku behind her she turns looking at Goku, “Stay behind me Goku.” Nori tells him. Nori raises her hands above her as she starts to chant as well, she slowly starts to lower her hands.

Laney is screaming at her to stop, “STOP HER… STOP HER NOW!!” Laney is screaming at the top of her voice. Sanzo and Gojyo start toward her as Jin and Yaone grab them.

“You will be killed if you go out there. You cannot stop it is too far along now.” Jin tells them.

Nori lowers her hands as a sword of ice blue flames appears in her hands, Nori yells out, “SWORD OF ICEY SHADOWS!!” Nori swings the sword causing a whirlpool effect as Kougaiji’s attack heads straight for her and Goku.

They all watch as Nori’s attack swallows Kougaiji’s attack and then vanished into thin air. Nori and Goku stand there as Nori turns smiling at everyone. Laney saw blood start to soak Nori’s shirt where Sanzo had shot her 4 days ago. Sanzo saw this as well as he jerks free of Yaone he goes to run toward Nori.

Laney yells, “NORI!!” Everyone watches Nori start to collapse to the ground. Goku grabs her laying her on his lap.

Goku sees the blood and that Nori’s eyes are closed, “Nori… Nori… open your eyes Nori… NORI!!” Goku yells.

Everyone starts to run out to her. Sanzo getting there first, he touches Nori’s cheek, Sanzo looks up at Laney,

”She is ice cold Laney.” Sanzo tells her.

Kougaiji takes his jacket off going over to Nori and Sanzo, “Wrap her with this Sanzo it will keep her warm until we can get her back to the village.” Kougaiji tells him. Sanzo gives Kougaiji a look of pure loathing has he jerks it away from him wrapping it around her.

“Will she be ok Laney?” Goku asks her with a tear in his eye. “If I knew what was going to happen to her I would have stopped her, but not even I can stop that attack of Kougaiji’s… I did not know it would hurt her to call on that power… I am sorry, I’m so sorry.” Goku says as he starts to sob.

“Goku it is not your fault, Nori knew what would happen if she called on that power, she knew you could not stop that attack that is why she did what she did.” Laney tells him.

“So she did it to protect Goku.” Hakkai said.

“Yes she did.” Laney said.

Sanzo picks Nori up into his arms walking back to the village, “Goku STOP crying and go get he doctor bring him back to the hotel!” Sanzo says in a cold tone. Sanzo keeps walking as Goku runs past him into the village. The rest of them follow in behind Sanzo.
