“Dark Love”
Chapter 8


As sunset approached, the boys were getting ready to descend from the house to go see Jedidiah and Zachariah to save little Charlie and Shelly.

The five of them walked out to the back pasture, they stopped at the back fence looking at one another as Brad tells them,

“It happens tonight or it never happens. We know what to do and we have to stop him or he will kill us all.”

“I hate killing one of our own Brad.” Darren replies.

“I do not want to do this either Darren, but he is willing to kill one of his own.” Kevin says.

“Why should we be any different?” Doug replies.

“Because that is not our way.” Darryl says.

“It is now Darryl and if we do not kill him and Zachariah tonight they will be back again and again and we will never be rid of them until we… or they… are dead. Are you with us on this?” Brad says.

Darren and Darryl nod in agreement as Brad replies, “Good then lets go get Little Charlie and Shelly and bring them back home with us.”

The group takes off running as they lift from the ground and disappear into the soon setting sun.


Meanwhile at the cave Zachariah is standing talking to his Father, “They are on their way father.”

“Yes and I will take care of Brad when they get here. I need you to stay with Charlie to make sure they do not get to him.” Jedidiah tells him.

“But what of the women father?” Zachariah asks him.

“She is not of your concern, I will deal with her and Bard in my own way.” Jedidiah tells him.

“You know Brad will not turn her father. Why are you even toying with this idea of yours?” Zachariah asks him. Jedidiah grabs his son by his shirt pulling him toward him as his eyes glow a haunting gray as he says, “You do not question my ways boy or you to will be facing the punishment these 6 are going to get. Remember I know of your indiscretions as well you are not blameless here boy.”

His father shoves him back as he flies across the cave hitting the wall behind him. Jedidiah turns walking to the mouth of the cave to await the boy’s arrival.

Zachariah gets to his feet dusting off his clothing as he mumbles to himself, “I should have told them where to find you old man, then I would not have had to deal with you any longer.”

Zachariah walks off deeper into the cave to go set with Charlie as his father puts his plane into action to get Brad to turn Shelly.


Once at the cave the five boys stand just outside the cave entrance. They look at one another and nod as they all take off their own way to go save Shelly and Little Charlie and kill Jedidiah and Zachariah and end the game Jedidiah wants to play with them.

Brad walked straight into the mouth of the cave right into his Uncle’s hands. Before Brad could move from his Uncle’s grasp Jedidiah had Brad pined to the top of the cave holding Brad only by his throat with one hand, Brad struck at his Uncle only to get a smile out of him.

“You have become weak living within the human race boy. If this is all you have I will kill you now for your weakness in not needed or wanted within the clan.” Jedidiah replies.

Brad strikes at his Uncle again this time hard enough to get him to falter and let go of him.

“I will show you weak old man. You forget we are of the same bloodline. I hold the same strengths as you.” Brad tells him.

Jedidiah strikes again drawing blood on Brad as Brad strikes back on his Uncle. They exchange hit after hit until Jedidiah grows weary of the combat between them and vanishes in the darkness, Jedidiah hears Brad call out,

“Where is Shelly old man?” Brad looking around for his Uncle ready for any attack he sends his way.

“You will see her soon enough Brad no need to rush it nephew.” Jedidiah tells him as he swoops in slashing down Brad’s back.

Brad falls to his knees cringing in pain as he yells, “You coward you cannot face me like a real man you have to hide in the shadows to attack, to even beat me.”

Jedidiah laughs as he says, “A man…. I was never a man I have been and always will be a vampire… an angle of darkness. Something you have forgotten about since you took on the life of a human. You and your other clansmen have forgotten what the life of a vampire is all about.”

Brad stands as he says, “Never have we forgotten what we are or about ourselves. We have stood true to being a vampire we just choose to live within the human race to have a life we could never have in the homeland because of your son.”

Jedidiah swoops back in on Brad as Brad turns knocking his Uncle from the shadows. Jedidiah tumbles to the ground landing a few feet from where Brad was standing.

In anger Bead looks at his Uncle saying, “Zachariah caused all this pain and suffering we have had to face for the last 57 years.”

“Zachariah has faced his punishment by being locked in the Kings dungeon and being tortured for his knowledge of where I was.” Jedidiah replies.

“They should have killed him for giving up the information on where to find our clansmen to kill them off.” Brad replies from gritted teeth.

Brad walks toward his Uncle as Jedidiah swoops up and strikes Brad in the chest with his hand sending his hand into and through Brad’s chest. Brad’s eyes widen as he falls into his Uncle. Jedidiah lifts Brad laughing as he throws Brad across the cave. Brad clutches his chest in agony as his Uncle walks up to him kicking him in the back sending him flying across the cave again.

“What Zachariah has done has not gone unpunished; he has paid back his wrong doing.” Jedidah replies leaning down and hitting Brad sending him across the cave again.

Brad bounces off the cave wall hitting the floor hard as he hears his Uncle saying, “What have you six paid for while he was rotting away in the Kings dungeon?”

Brad tries to get to his feet, but only makes it to his hands and knees as his Uncle kicks him again sending him deeper into the cave. Brad rolls over still clutching his chest he sees his Uncle drawing closer to him as he chokes up a few words, “We… Suffered… Plenty.”

“Not in my eyes you have not suffered enough.” Jedidiah replies leaning down backhanding Brad into the wall.

“BRAD!!”

Brad heard Shelly scream as she ran to his side. Brad rolls over looking into Shelly’s eyes they were red from her crying. Brad tried to speak to her, but spat up blood instead.

“YOU BASTARD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HIM. YOU SAID YOU WERE NOT GOING TO KILL THEM!” Shelly yells at Jedidiah.

Jedidiah backhands Shelly sending her back a few feet from Brad. Brad grows angered as he knocks his Uncles feet out from under him bringing him down to his level. He strikes at his Uncle as Jedidiah catches his hand in his. Jedidiah brings his other hand around and forcing it deeper into Brad’s chest through his already gapping wound. Brad screams in agony as Jedidiah picks Brad up and throws him across the cave again bouncing him off the wall and hitting the floor beneath him hard.

Jedidiah laughs as he turns walking away from Shelly and Brad both. After a few feet from them he turns back looking at them. Shelly gets to her feet running to Brad’s side. Jedidiah waves his hand in front of him as bars appear between him, Shelly and Brad. Jedidiah was still laughing as Shelly kneels down at Brad’s side she hears Jedidiah say,

“If I was you my dear I would pray to your God because you do not have much time left here as a child of his.”

Shelly looks back at Jedidiah as she yells “Kill me if you must, but I will never be a child of the darkness by your hands.”

Jedidiah laughs he replies, “That is good to know, because it will not be by my hands that will turn you.”

“I will never turn Shelly to suffice you.” Brad growls as he is now on his hand and knees clutching his chest looking at the floor under him.

“Brad… Brad you should not be up moving around. You need to heal stay still for now.” Shelly tells him.

“You will have no choice Brad it will be her or it will be you and when your true form takes over Shelly soon will be one of us like it should be.” Jedidiah says.

“NEVER!!” Brad yells out looking up at his Uncle. Shelly looks at Brad as his eyes are glowing the unforgettable pail gray they were glowing the day they met six years ago.

“Brad…” Shelly says.

Brad looks at Shelly as his incisors have came to full form and his skin pail and growing cold to the touch she hears Brad growl under his breath, “Get away from me Shelly.”

“But Brad…” Shelly replies.

Brad pushes her away from him as he growls again, “GET AWAY FROM ME!!”

Shelly looks at Brad down on the floor as his blood is puddle around him. She looks at Jedidiah as she yells, “WHAT IS GOING ON WITH HIM!”

“His life’s blood is being drained from him. Once he is drained, he will die… That is unless his true form can conquer the love he has in his heart for you. Then he will feed and with nothing to feed on but you.” Jedidiah pauses as he laughs, “Well… I will at least be getting one thing I want, and Brad will finally suffer the fate he deserves to suffer.”

“How does him turning me make him suffer?!” Shelly exclaims.

“Because he knows you do not want to live a life like this and for him to turn you into something you will regret and grow to hate him for doing to you. It will crush him for all eternity.” Jedidiah tells her.

Shelly looks at Jedidiah as a tear rolls down her cheek. She looks back at Brad as he is more pail and grows weaker to the point of not being able to hold himself up on his hand and knees.

“I won’t do it Jedidiah… I will never turn Shelly… I will die here at her side and the others will stop you and Zachariah finally. Shelly will never be yours or your sons and then I will see you in hell.” Brad tells him with his face to the floor of the cave trying hard not to let his hunger get the best of him.

“We will see about that Brad. I can feel your true form becoming more active the weaker you get. Soon I will watch you devour the women you love and bring her to be one of us.” Jedidiah says.

Tears stream down Shelly’s cheeks as she watches the man she loves die before her very eyes. She jumps to her feet angered as she runs toward Jedidiah she reaches through the bars at him grabbing his dagger at his side. Jedidiah steps back, but not quick enough as Shelly pulls the dagger from his side and onto her side of the bars.

Jedidiah laughs as he says, “Well now if Brad comes after you, you can defend yourself against him. I wonder if you would win or if Brad will prevail and get his dinner.”

“You’re wrong Jedidiah... I did not take this blade form you to defend myself from Brad. I took it so I could die alone with the man I love.” Shelly backed up not taking her eyes from Jedidiah she keeps backing up until she feels Brad behind her.

“No Shel…ly you can’t do this… charl..ie nee..ds you. Plea…se no…” Brad tells her as she looks down on him growing weaker by the second.

Jedidiah looks at Shelly knowing she is serious and would end her life next to the man she loved without hesitation, Shelly had the point of the blade positioned to pierce her heart the second she felt the need to end her life.

Jedidiah shakes his head as he looks at the both of them he replies, “Do as you wish and when you both are dead I will burn you with the others.” Jedidiah turns walking away from them as Shelly hears him say,

“Foolish humans you offer them the world and they choice to die for love.”


Shelly stands there for a few more minutes until she knew Jedidiah was long gone. She drops to her knees lifting Brad to face her; he was fighting his vampire form with all he had.

“Brad… Brad listen to me.” Shelly tells him.

Brad looks up at Shelly as she tells him, “I do not want to lose you, and I do not want to die. Please Brad I want you to turn me.” Brad jerks away from her falling to the floor as Shelly grabs him pulling him up to her again. Tears streaming down her cheeks she begs with him once more.

“I know you do not want to do this, but if you do not… We all die here tonight. You, me, little Charlie, Doug, Darryl, Darren, and Kevin. Everything we have we gotten, all of it gone.” Shelly pauses looking into Brad’s slate gray eyes as they glow. She can see his hunger growing deeper within him and the light they once held now dead from loss of his life’s blood. Brad closes his eyes as a tear rolls down his cheek Shelly hears him whisper,

“I love you and I will gladly give my life for yours.”

“If you die now Brad you die in vain… you will have died for nothing, because Jedidiah will find away to turn me. The others need you to help them they cannot do this alone Doug needs you little Charlie needs you.” Shelly looks into Brad’s eyes again as she sobs, “I need you… Please Brad… I am doing this because I love you and I now know what you feel when you think of losing me to death. Please… Please Brad… I want you to do this.” Shelly tells him holding him close to her.

“Shelly…” Brad whispers to her drawing closer to her.

“I love you Brad and now we can be together forever just like we want to be… Please…” Shelly says.

“I love you Shelly more then you will ever know… I love you.” Brad tells her taking her into his arms.

Shelly closes her eyes leaning back her head as she feels Brad’s hot breath on her skin a single tear rolls down her cheek as she whispers, “Forgive me Father, I do this for love.”
