Chapter 13


The next day Nakamura walks into his sister’s room finding Dark lying next to her in her bed. Nakamura smiles as he walks over to them and touches Dark waking him.

“Hey Dark you need to get up.” Nakamura tells him.

Dark sits up on the edge of the bed and stretches out as he asks, “What time is it?”

“6:45 I came in to wake you and to see Shira before I left for school.” Nakamura says.

Dark yawns stretching out again as he says, “Well you had better get to going then you only have 15 minutes before class starts.” Nakamura nods as he starts back for the door in the room he reaches for the handle as he stops he turns looking at Dark.

Dark looks at Nakamura intuitive as Dark asks, “What is it Nakamura?”

“Well I was wondering Dark…” Nakamura pauses looking down at his feet as he hears Dark says, “Yeah… wondering about what?”

“Well why sister was not hurt last night if you beat up Krad as bad if not worse then you?” Nakamura asks him.

The look on Dark’s face changed to a confused look as he looked at Shiraishi he says, “That’s right Shiraishi suffers the same as Krad and Zesiro if something happens to them.” Dark looks toward Nakamura again as he tells him, “I am not sure Nakamura that is a very good question. One, I am going to get to the bottom of this today when I get the chance to go and talk to Grandpa. I will let you know what he tells me when you get back today.”

Dark looks back at Shiraishi as he hears Nakamura walk from the room saying, “Alright then I will talk to you after school.”

Dark still looks down on Shiraishi as he thinks to himself, “Did they move her from Zesiro’s body and we do not know it. Where would they have moved her to and why? Shiraishi please help me understand what they are doing so I know you are safe.” Dark touches Shiraishi’s cheek with the back of his fingers as she move to his touch.

“Damn you Krad stay away from her…” Dark exclaims, “Shiraishi…”


While in the darkness Shiraishi and Krad have, their words with one another again, “Why Krad… Why are you doing this?” Shiraishi asks him.

Krad laughs as he says, “You and Dark do belong together don’t you?”

Shiraishi gets a look of discontent on her face as she says, “What is that suppose to mean Krad?”

Krad walks toward Shiraishi laughing as he says, “Dark always asks the obvious as well.”

“Obvious?!” Shiraishi asks him.

“Of course… it is as plain as the noise on your face why I am doing this.” Krad says.

“Then tell me because I am missing it somewhere along the way.” Shiraishi tells him becoming angered.

“For power…” Krad tells her touching her cheek. Shiraishi turns her head to avoid Krad’s touch.

Shiraishi heard Krad sigh as she looks back at him as she says, “Power only brings suffering and death if it is in the wrong hands and power in your hands is wrong.”

“Power in my hands is remarkable my love you will see.” Krad tells her reaching for her again.

“How can hurting and killing people to get what you want be remarkable?” Shiraishi asks him.

Krad becomes angered as he says, “It happens everyday in your world… Your people kill and harm others to get what they want out of life. Just because you choose to not see it does not mean it does not happen, why should I not want the same power they want or seek for.”

Shiraishi hangs her head as she says, “Yes my people kill and hurt others in their wars and battles that they wage against one another, but they are not doing it for the same reasons you are. Some of our people in power do this to help others so they can gain control over their countries again from the tyrants that control them. You are doing it for your own personal gain Krad.”

“So you are saying I am a tyrant Shira?” Krad asks her.

“You are worse then a tyrant Krad. You care for no one… not even yourself, you have not even thought out what could happen to you once you take over the jewel. If I die, the jewel will consume you and take over your thoughts and you will no longer be the Krad you are now. The Jewel is like you is seeks out only power and the more power it can draw from the stronger it becomes… it feeds on the pain and suffering of others… the blood that will be spilt for your gain will become part of the jewel making it more powerful and even harder to control.” Shiraishi tells him.

“Who said I was going to let you die Shira?” Krad tells her smiling a devilish smile.

Shiraishi jerks at her chains as she says, “I will die first before I let you use me to control the jewel. I will not allow you to do such a thing.” Shiraishi tells him.

“Oh you will and you will do it willingly my dear.” Krad says caressing her cheek as he says, “I told you that you would be my Queen and I still plan on that being a reality.”

Shiraishi jerks away from Krad as she growls under her breath, “I will never be your Queen Krad… NEVER!!”

Krad grabs her chin making her look at him as he gets an evil look in his eyes he says, “I will have you as my Queen and you will do as I tell you to do. In a few more days, you will be mine and we will destroy Dark… Together…” Shiraishi tries jerking away from Krad as his hold tightens on her she tells him.

“Let go of me Krad or you will suffer the consequences.” Krad chuckles as he moves closer to her. Shiraishi closes her eyes as she hits him with an energy source pushing him back from her.

Krad laughs as he slides to a stop he stands there looking at her he says, “So it is starting already I see. You have 3 days until your birthday and your powers are already starting to come to you. I may have to bump up the day I am to bind you to me.”

“I will not allow you to bind me Krad. I will not let you win this little game of yours. I will not let you have the power you want or destroy the world as we know it.” Shiraishi tells him.

Krad smiles as he walks toward her she sets up a barrier blocking him from her as she says, “I will win this, and you will die by my hands Krad. Your powers are child’s play compared to mine and as the days pass I only become stronger.” Krad tries to break her barrier with no successes he starts to become angered as he can see she is starting to weaken by his attempts and her trying to keep the barrier around her.

He stops as he turns walking away he says, “You will not win Shira and Dark will be the one that will die not me.” Shiraishi drops her head as a single tear falls to the floor she whispers into the darkness, “Hurry Dark time is slipping away from us.”


Meanwhile Dark is talking to Grandpa as they are looking through books of spells and magic objects as Dark slams the book closed he exclaims, “We have to get the ring off of Shira or the spell of segregation is not going to be released over her soul. All this is not helping us we need to find out if he moved her or not.”

“Dark it will help us because I know there is a spell out there that we can call Shira’s soul to us and tell her what she needs to do so we can break the spell the ring has on her.” Grandpa says.

Grandpa pauses as he says, “Yes here it is here.”

Dark looks over at the book as Grandpa says, “Now we go call on Shira and see if she has been moved.”

“And how will she be able to tell us? What if she does not even know?” Dark exclaims.

“When we call Shira her soul will come to us if she is still with Zesiro his soul will come with hers. Remember Dark Shira’s soul may be her soul, but she is part of Zesiro as well.” Grandpa tells him. Dark nods as they go to the ceremonial circle.

Grandpa starts chanting the spell as the flame grows in the pit Grandpa’s chant continues. Dark watches the flame as it grows larger and becomes fiercer. Dark watches as the flames totally engulf themselves and disappear down into the pit he jumps back as they spring back to life as the color of the flames turn from orange and red to a bright blue and ice white.

Dark exclaims, “Shira…”

Grandpa looks up as they see Shiraishi’s image in the flames she smiles at them as she says, “I was wondering when you would call upon me like this.”

“Shira are you alright?” Dark asks her.

“Have been better but I am holding on. I knew you would come for me Dark.” Shiraishi says.

“I need to know where Krad has moved you Shira do you know.” Dark asks her.

“He has moved me to the old ruins in the ceremony room. He plans on binding me to him the night before my Birthday.” Shiraishi tells him.

“The night before… THAT IS TOMORROW NIGHT!!” Dark exclaims.

“Yes and with what little powers I have I will not be able to stop him. I can hold him off now, but I cannot stop the binding spell.” Shiraishi tells Dark.

“Shiraishi listen to me…” Grandpa says.

Shiraishi looks at Grandpa as he says, “The ring of Kao you need to remove it. Krad will have to have your body to bind you to him. He will have to remove the spell of segregation to put a second binding spell on you, but as long as you are wearing the ring of Kao, he can pull your soul away from your body again if he finds the binding spell is not working. You have to remove the ring as soon as he places your soul and body back together.”

“I will be there to get the ring from you once you have removed it. Once I have it in my hand the ring cannot hurt any longer. I will destroy the hold it has on you and seal it once again.” Dark tells her.

Shiraishi looks at Dark as she says, “Then keep hold of my body as long as you can. Try to get as close to midnight tomorrow night as you can so I will be able to descend while all of this is going on. Once I have descended, Krad will not be able to stop me. He was planning to have the Jewel there as well Dark so stay away from it. For once you have retrieved the Jewel, you yourself will start to vanish and I will not be able to pull you back.” Dark nods as he sees she is starting to fade into the flames.

Dark reaches out to her as he says, “We will be together again tomorrow night Shira I promise you.” Shiraishi nods as she finally vanishes and the flames go back to a normal burning.

Dark looks at Grandpa as he says, “We are not going to have to use that spell after all Grandpa. If we can keep Shira with us until almost midnight she will be able to take care of Krad herself.”

“Yes, but are you sure you want Shira to destroy Krad?” Grandpa asks him.

“Why wouldn’t I, look what he has done to her he deserves it.” Dark says.

“When Shiraishi descends she will have the power to cast Krad into the abyss. If she does this it will mean when the next Niwa and Hikari boys are born Krad will no longer exist, but Dark will no longer exist either.” Grandpa tells him.

Dark looks at Grandpa as he says, “So if Shira kills Krad she could kill me as well?” Dark asks.

“Yes there is a good chance that since you and Krad is linked like you are that when she kills Krad she might kill you as well sending you into the abyss with him.” Grandpa says.

“Then I will have to warn her about this. I know her grandfather said that when she releases me Krad will follow into the same world she brings me into, making him human as well.” Dark says.

“Then you will have to stop her from killing Krad or you will follow him.” Grandpa says.

Dark nods as he looks at Grandpa he tells him, “I need to get back to Shira’s body so someone is looking over it for the next two days. We have to hold Krad off as long as we can.”

“I will be there tomorrow night to help you and when we let Krad have her we have to make it look like he won not that we gave up and let him have her.” Grandpa says.

“Yes I will make it look like Krad has beaten me and then he will have the surprise of his life when he wakens Shira.” Dark says as he leaves the room.


The night comes and goes with out a problem and no sign of Krad as Dark settles down next to Shiraishi falling asleep. The sun raises as Dark sets on the edge of Shiraishi bed.

Nakamura walks in with Afton in tow as they stand in front of Dark he looks up at them as he says, “It starts… I want you both to go to school today and lay it on thick making Zesiro and Krad think we gave up and could not find away to save Shira. I want Krad to show his self tonight so I want you to talk about us killing Shira tonight so she will not have to be a slave to Krad or the Jewel. Nakamura you will tell Afton how your parents have talked about this and think it is the best way to stop him and save the world and how this is, what Shira would have wanted. Afton you are to talk about how I am not even with the living any longer and how disarranged this has me. I want Krad so sucked into this that he will stop at nothing to come and get Shira tonight before we kill her before midnight tonight.”

“But that is not what is happening right Dark?!” Nakamura exclaims.

“As far as you know yes that is what is happening tonight. I need you to be so believable that you believe it yourself. Krad has to think that Shiraishi is going to die tonight before her 18th or he will not come for her. He will lay low until he thinks we are going to make a move with this and he needs to believe that are next move is to kill Shira.” Dark says.

Both the boys nod as they leave the room Afton looks back at Dark as he says, “Are you going to be alright Dark?”

“I will be fine and I will be a lot better when tonight is over and Shira is back safe in my arms.” Dark tells him.

“I understand Dark and we will not let you down with this.” Afton tells him walking from the room.

Later on at school Zesiro has been watching Nakamura and Afton like a tiger watching, it’s pray. He saw the boys were dragging their feet and was not their usually happy selves. At lunch while out in the courtyard Zesiro saw them talking he hides behind a near by tree listening to what they are saying. Nakamura gives the first sign to Afton to let him know the conversation can start.

“So how is Dark doing since he got the news last night?” Nakamura asks him.

“Not good at all he said once Shira has past on tonight he was going after Krad and Krad will die by his hands tonight there will be no exception to the rule this time he does not care if it kills him as well.” Afton says.

“I feel so bad for Dark he loves my sister so much and Krad had to go and do this…” Nakamura starts to cry.

Afton gets a shocked look on his face he touches Nakamura’s shoulder as he says, “Nakamura I know you are having a hard time of this as well all of us are. I cannot believe we have to kill Shira to save her and to save the world. If only we could have found away to save her.”

“I wish I could get my hands on Krad I would kill him myself.” Nakamura says still sobbing.

Afton squeezes Nakamura’s shoulder as he says, “I know what you are saying Nakamura I think I will have Dark step back into me so when he goes after Krad I can help him kill him.”

“If Dark does that hit Krad a thousand times over for me for taking my sister away from me... I hope Krad dies a painful and horrible death, I want Dark to make him suffer as we will suffer without Shira.” Afton nods as he hangs his head.

Nakamura looks up at him as he asks Afton, “You will be there tonight won’t you Afton. I am going to need a good friend by my side when they finally take Shira’s life. I am not really sure how I am going to handle this when it truly happens.”

“Yes I will be there at 11 with Grandpa and Mother they are the ones that are casting the spell of rest on Shira tonight.” Afton says.

“Thank you my friend, I do not know if I will ever be able to repay you for what you and Dark have done for me and my family.” Nakamura tells him.

“I will be there for you Nakamura and even after this I will always be your friend and be there for you when ever you need me.” Afton says.

Both boys sit there in silence as Zesiro sneaks away from the tree Zesiro hears Krad, “The fools are going to kill Shiraishi tonight before she descends. That means we will have to get her body before they commit her to rest tonight.”

“Yeah but when they never said when they were going to do it only that they will be there by 11, so how will we know when we need to be there to get her Krad?” Zesiro asks him.

“We will have to get to her as soon after that as we can. We cannot lose Shira not after all this. I will win this game and Dark will see his beloved Shira turn to me with undying love before him and then he his self dies by her own hands.” Krad and Zesiro laugh as they walk into the school.


Later that day after school Nakamura and Afton walk into Shira’s room were Dark was sound asleep leaning against the bedside on the floor with his knees drawn to his chest and his arms wrapped around his legs. Afton kneels down to Dark’s side as he touches him startling Dark and himself as Afton falls to the floor next to him.

Dark looks around the room seeing Afton and Nakamura in the room as he asks, “How did it go?”

“It went good really good.” Afton says smiling.

“Are you sure about that Afton?” Dark asks him.

“Oh Yeah… I think the clincher was when Nakamura started to cry over Shira and what was going to happen tonight.” Afton tells Dark chuckling.

Dark looks at Nakamura as he asks him, “You were crying?!”

“Yes I was I thought it was a good heartfelt touch it made it more believable on our part.” Nakamura says laughing.

Dark chuckles as he says, “You two did well now all we have to do is wait for Krad to show.”

“We dropped a time of 11 to them so right around then is when we should see Krad.” Afton says.

“Good at least I have a good idea of what time I will be seeing him around here.” Dark says. The boy’s smile at one another as they soon go off to do their thing before the nights events take place.
