Addendum: Since 1988, when this essay was written,
Count Tolstoy has lost his court case against Toby Low and has been
ordered by the Court to pay reparations for alleged libel. To the
best of our knowledge, the decision of the Court was being appealed, as
recently as two years ago.
In addition, while most of the "Operations" mentioned in this essay
took place in Europe, it should be noted that the United States was
also not without its staging points: primarily, FORT DIX, NJ and
SEATTLE, WA (among others)!
Also of interest is the fact that a memorial fountain which had been
erected in London in the early 1980s, in commemoration of the victims
of Yalta, was destroyed almost immediately upon its completion by
"vandals unknown."
Finally, to date, materials bearing upon forcible repatriation of
Eastern Europeans by the Allies after World War II still remain
"Classified" in the United States--half a century after the fact(!)—as
"bearing on national security"!!
