High School Dropouts Why do teens drop out?
Especial in the last year of high school.
Most people say it's just plain stupid but
sometimes it's for a good or bad reason. Can
you help them or is it just impossible? Some
teens have problems at home, some are lazy
and fed up of school, some have financial
problems and just can't afford to finish high
school or they just can't cope with all the
work loads that goes with the last year of
high school. Alot of people recommend talking
to a school counsellor but can they really
help? Take these to two people that I know:
One of my friends rescently dropped out of
high school for her boyfriend because they
had moved in together when she had turned 18.
Then her boyfriend lost his job so she had to
give up school to make some money. She only
had 4 more months left before she had her
high school diploma. Her boyfriend is a drug
addict so that where most of the little money
she earns goes. My class and her friends
thought she was being stupid and that she
would regret it later in life but I think she
already regretting it because now she's stuck
in a dead end job with a small paycheck and
she broke up with her boyfriend because she
had wanted a baby and she told him to lay off
the drugs and he wouldn't. Then another of my
classmates dropped out because he couldn't be
bothered to come to school because he was
very lazy and said he would go to evening
school but he's not. One has money problem
and had a drug addict boyfriend and the other
one you will never motivate to go back to
school because he's just not interested.
These were example of teens that you can't
help or who don't want help. You can give
them advice like my friends and I did and
everything to try and convince them to stay
those few extra months but if it will make a
difference I don't really know. It's their
choice. It's just a pity they don't realise
what they are giving up. If you're think
about dropping out when school gets difficult
coz I know it's only just started again, just
thinking about this it's a trend that will
stick with you
FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
