To maintain healthy pond fish and plants during the winter months.  This time the preperation is necessary.

Remove any debris from the surface of the pond.  USe fish net to catch the fallen leaves.  A large amount of water change is necessary. .   Check your pump and sumerged pump for any blockage.  Remove the dead leaves on your plants. Time to prepae the fish for hibernation.

Management

Test water quality and clean the filters to keep ammonia level to a minimum.

Water Quality

While the temperature still warm feed them in a amount equal to what they can consume in three to five minutes. In northern zones as the temperature starting to drop  feed them low protein and decrease feedings.  Start preparing feeding your koi for the winter.  Fish food and vitamin supplements strengthens the koi and prepare them over winter.

Feeding your Kois

Check the fish for any sign of illness Clean out as many fallen leaves as possible to prevent them from decomposing in the pond
