Feed your koi once or twice a day but it is better to feed your koi little and often it makes their metabolism faster and it also easy to the filter to clean the waste.  I feed my koi twice a day, only on weekends I feed my koi thrice where I have more free time to feed them.  Now a days there are many varieteis of koi food available in pet stores.  But in Japan some farmers used table scraps in feeding their kois.

You can hand feed your koi, this will only happen if your koi were tamed enough to go you and eat the food in your hand.  To do this always feed your koi in the same place, but you must have patience because it wont be easy.  If you want the easy way you can buy a chaigoi they are not a  shy koi they are always the first one to eat during feeding time.
