Six day astronomy workshop: Nagarkot Observatory board

Observatory to be completed within this month!

B.P.Koirala Memorial Planetarium & Observatory and Science Museum Development Board is organizing its another astronomy and astrophysics workshop where around 120 students and teachers from different schools of Kathmandu are participating. This program is expected to increase the popularity of astronomy in Nepal. While amateur methods are more important for the public the amateur community thinks the workshop must include amateur astronomers in delivering their ideas and techniques to the participants.

Fund raising star party organized in Gaighat!

20 Dec 2005 This of course didnt raise much fund for the organization but was great!
We observed the Crescent Venus, so magnificent, with motor on. Everyone was excited to see a planet in crescent shape, like the moon. Then turned the scope towards the Seven Sisters. Then to the small disk of planet Mars. And then to the Orion Nebula. There was an electricity black out and we could even see the Milky Way diving to the Western horizon. And so many clusters were seen naked-eye. We didnt get much time to turn the scope to any part of the Milky Way however.
For the participants, from the public, we first had a presentation over a laptop. We had some food then observation. Later after electricity was back we turned on the music. There were volunteers collected from Bhrikuti International School. They had a really nice time too.
Those who were completely new to astronomy learned many astronomy techniques.

Photos of this event will be posted soon in our group photo album.See messages at The Cosmic Group for other updates.
