edieval themes have always held a special interest for me.  Here I hope to provide some links to, and descriptions of, some areas of interest within the realm of Medievalism.
My favorite artist is Edmund Blair Leighton (which you might have guessed, judging by the concentration of his artwork on my pages), a Pre-Raphaelite.  "The Accolade" and "Stitching the Standard" are my favorite works.  Visit these links to sights of medieval interest....

"The Accolade" by Edmund Blair Leighton
Tristan and Isolde were lovers whose love was taboo, much like Lancelot and Gwynnevere's love was taboo.  In fact, the Arthurian legends are chock-full of taboo loves.  Follow these links to some Arthurian sites...

"Tristan and Isolde" by Edmund Blair Leighton
In the stormy east-wind straining,
The pale yellow woods were waning,
The broad stream in his banks complaining.
Heavily the low sky raining
over tower'd Camelot;
Down she came and found a boat
Beneath a willow left afloat,
And round about the prow she wrote
the
Lady of Shalott.

Heard a carol, mournful, holy,
Chanted loudly, chanted lowly,
Till her blood was frozen slowly,
And her eyes were darkened wholly,
turn'd to tower'd Camelot.
For ere she reached upon the tide
The first house by the water-side,
Singing in her song she died,
the
Lady of Shalott.
"The Lady of Shalott" by John William Waterhouse
The Lady of Shalott is perhaps the most tragic of all the medieval subjects.  She was a favorite subject of Pre-Raphaelite painters (such as J.W.W.)  She is under a strange curse, and cannot look out her window, and only knows what she sees in her mirror.

To the right of the painting is an excerpt from Alfred LordTennyson's poem, "The Lady of Shalott".
