Herbs for Colds, etc. My own personal favorite remedy for colds is echinacea, goldenseal, cayenne & garlic. Many times this formula combined with vitamin C will totally ward off an oncoming cold. You can usually buy echinacea & goldenseal in a combo. However beware of too inexpensive formulas. Goldenseal is an relativlely expensive herb & is often "cut" with a cheaper herb(s). Again your best bet is to capsule or extact your own. I know I keep preaching this, but I think it is very important to BE SURE of what you're getting. |
Relaxation & Sleep Many of us in today's stressful world find it hard to relax and/or sleep. Though you can get a prescription from your doctor, natural remedies often work better & have almost none of the side effects that synthetic medicines can have. Therefore, I will list some single herbs & some combinations that have ben proven to be helpful for many people,me included. |
Single Herbs for Relaxation & Sleep Valerian Root Kava Hops Skullcap Passionflower Chamomile |
Herbal Combinations for Sleep 1- Hops, Valerian & Scullcap 2- valerian ,st. johnswort, black cohosh, ginseng, hops, skullcap, mistletoe, lobelia . This formula is called calm spirit & can be purchased from Sage Woman Herbs. |
I have had the most sucsess with Kava in the extract form. This relaxs & helps you to sleep , but doesn't leave you feeling "hung over" the next day. I have also used valerian extensively & found it to be very helpful. Sometimes herbal medicine can be a trial & error process so try different combinations until you find what works for you. |

How to use Cold Formula At the first sign of cold symptoms begin taking the following: 2 echinacea caps, 1 or 2 goldenseal caps, 1 cayenne cap, 1 or 2 garlic caps, & 1 mega (1000) vitamin C. Repeat every 4 to 6 hours until symptoms are gone. You can also use extract in place of the capsules. Substitute 1 dropperful for each capsule. I used to be afflicted with frequent sinus infections. Every time I caught a slight cold it would turn into a fullblown sinus infection. I'm happy to say that this formula has decreased my problem considerably.Goldenseal is excellent for the mucus membranes. |
