Gaming Links
Board, Card, Roleplaying Games
- The Daily Illuminator, a daily
notebook of goings on in the gaming industry and at Steve Jackson Games. It can be funny at times. I don't visit near as much as I used to.
- RPG.net, an awesome site that has articles and game reviews, along with a massive collection of links to game companies and other places. I write game reviews for this site. Highly recommended, this site is updated almost daily.
- The Guild Companion is an online 'zine to support ICE games, including Rolemaster, Middle-Earth Role-Playing, Middle-Earth: The Wizards, etc. They also publish some D20 material, and seem to be expanding to more of a general gaming webzine. A good site; I once wrote an article for 'em.
- MagWeb, a collection of military
history and gaming magazines on the web. This is a fee site, and I am not a member, so don't ask me about that. If you have a heavy interest in military history, then you will love this site. I should point out that many of the articles I have written for Lone Warrior are available on this site. I even made it into the "top 250 articles" list for the second quarter, 2002.
- Irony Games' on-line RPG tools,
an on-line collection of tools to help you design fantasy role-playing
adventures. Some of their stuff is a little bit generic, but you have to try real hard to not find something good here.
- Flying Buffalo, Inc., the producers of Tunnels & Trolls, Nuclear War, and other forms of fun and mayhem. They also run a number of PBM games.
- The Miniatures Page, a website dedicated to gaming through miniatures. There is a LOT of stuff here, so go lose yourself for a couple hours and try to avoid those impulse purchases.
- GMT Games is a publisher of board and card-based wargames, though they have recently also started up a line of "family games." I own a lot of their games, and the quality is consistently high.
- Game Table Online is a company I ran into at Origins this year. They have software allowing you to play board and card games with people over the Internet. A cool concept, but one I have yet to try out personally.
Electronic Games
- Gamespy is a site that has everything to do with computer and console games. They have a large number of affiliate sites that you can check out, so if you have any interest in electronic games of any stripe, this is a good place to start looking for information. These people make the GameSpy software that a lot of computer games use for online play matching.
- Gameforms is the progeny of the old Gaming Intelligence Agency. It's an odd site, and the games they focus on seems totally driven by the personal tastes of the staff, but it's still interesting. Good, clean site design, too. And their letters column is great.
- RPG Fan is a site for people who, like myself, enjoy a good RPG on their computer or video game console. Good reviews, and a great section on RPG soundtracks. This is one of my favorite sites.
- Gamespot is the bomb. The best all around gaming site out there. A lot of their older material is restricted to the members only area (which is reasonably priced, BTW), but their new stuff is always free, except for the downloads.
- Gamers.com is the web arm of Ziff-Davis' gaming publications (Computer Gaming World, Electronic Gaming Monthly, etc.) and has some good stuff. It is a little high on flash, low on content, though.
I am a member of the following gaming organizations.
- The Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design, an organization dedicated to excellence in adventure gaming products. This is a professional organization, but some of us who do semi-professional freelance stuff from time-to-time are members, also.
- Solo Wargamers Association, an organization headquartered in the United Kingdom that is dedicated to solitaire gaming in all of its forms. I am the RPG editor for the association's magazine, Lone Warrior.
