I have a great interest in lighthouses. I've never seen one other then in pictures and  the statues I own. I have been reading alot of history about them. I find it very interesting that families lived in some of the lighthouses and took care of them. There was a lot of work to keep the buildings in perfect working condition. Owners could  pay a visit at any time. They were very strict that the lighthouses (inside and out ) be kept in perfect condition. That included a perfectly kept house. The winters were horrible in some areas of the country. Some of the lighthouse  keepers kept small gardens for food as well as something to help pass the time. In areas where there was no soil ,soil was hauled in and dumped in every small crevis so seeds could be planted.

Many old lighthouses are in danger of being destroyed.
The two pictures below are of Portland Head Lighthouse, One of my favorites.
