"You never...I mean, you didn’t intend on asking me..." she was turning a bright shade of pink, and when she looked me in the eyes, my tongue faltered.  She laughed nervously, trying to cover her embarrassment.  "I know boys don’t think like that.  I should have kept that in mind."  I reached over, putting my hand over hers.  "It’s alright," I said, not knowing exactly what I meant.  She leaned towards me, but I did not move to kiss her.  I wanted to set things straight.  Her head snapped back, and she looked at the grass.  "I don’t think we should assume things anymore," I said, clearing my throat.  She made no response, so I awkwardly continued.  "I can’t assume you’ll always be available."  She pulled her hand away.  "You want to court other people?" she asked quietly.  "That seems like a solution," I answered dumbly.  Judy stood up.  "Aren’t you going to watch the game?"  "Oh no, you go play.  I have things to do."  I stood up, standing close to her.  She looked up at me, brushing a strand of blond hair out of my eyes.  She smelled so fresh, and I wished I had kissed her a few minutes earlier, but I was sure she that she would have none of it now.  As she turned to go, my heart sunk.  What had I done?
