The Unexpected News

Death brings exaggerated grief

Striking you upside the head

A bat beating you relentlessly

crushing your skull

until you no longer exist

Swallowed by the sadness

Of death within the family

But I have never experienced

This heart wrenching, soul strangling hurt

I have never heard the unfamiliar voice

delivering such unfamiliar news

I bet you see it coming

as they slowly stride their way towards you

their footsteps fall heavily

Everything around you is drowned out by the news

that is about to dig its way into you

infesting your bodily functions

like insects eating their way

into a juicy peach

getting inside with such each

It is like some one is kicking your knees out from under you

so you crumble to the ground

leaving you with no strength to stand up again

The once auspicious lifestyle

is now destroyed and slaughtered

by inexplicable anguish

This desolation you now suffer from

vanquishing your life

Holding on with such great force

the more you fight to get away

the tighter its grip becomes

Every moment more tedious

Discovering it harder and harder to progress each day

You struggle to accept it

Convince yourself that it’s okay

but deep down

in the crevices of your being

you still realized

you will never be the same
