Happiness

Happiness never stays long

It is as if you achieve it

then it is snapped away from you

like a mother snatching candy away

from a child’s dirty hands

Happiness is the reward

you hold above your head

showing it off to the world

Everyone looks up to you

but then the next day

you are forgotten

thrown away like yesterdays newspaper

Happiness warms you from the inside out

Like a sip of hot chocolate

flowing down your throat

feeling it in your chest

its warmth overtaking your body

sending endorphins to every inch within your needing body

Happiness is only seasonal

It is like summer vacation

sleeping in everyday

free from the stress of homework

But fall and school always return

once again turning the bright skies gray

Happiness can wither away slowly

Like a beautiful rose

that is full and lively

but the next day is rotten

its once brilliant, lavish colors

are now dull and passionless

Happiness can disappear

instantaneously, with a few simple words

One second your smile can make your face glow

your laughter could fill a lonely room

The next moment

your smile is no longer radiant

your laughter never quite the same

Happiness is fragile

You seem impenetrable

but little did you know

how delicate you really were

until you are broken

your parts scattered among the cold unfriendly cement

People pass by and look down upon you

avoiding eye contact

ignoring your existence

Happiness is brief

You are delusional of the fact

that this incredibly feeling will not last forever

It will soon fade

drowning you and dragging your life down with it

Happiness Never Stays Long
