BRIDGET

Baby Bridget
Bridget was a rescue purchase.  I was admiring a tank full of babies in the local pet shop when this tiny little thing crawled out of the igloo.  She was the smallest rat I had ever seen; very frail and skinny with such thin fur I could see her pink skin through it.  I immediately asked to hold her and tried to convince the pet shop manager that she was too little to sell and that she would probably die - and therefore he should give her to me for free (after all I was buying $22.00 worth of dog biscuits at the same time).  He said that "give" was a four-letter-word and I was left with no other choice than to buy her.

As soon as I got her home I put her in with
Ella, Abby and Maggie.  She needed someone to cuddle up to, and after a cursory sniff they decided she was welcome to stay with them.  I began pumping her full of soy milk and she soon started to gain weight and grow some nice thick fur.

At fourteen months old Bridget has now developed a lovely coffee grey coat, and weighs more than five times the pathetic 40g she was the day I brought her home.  Although still quite thin and small for her age, she is a real livewire and takes great delight in jumping on the other rat's heads.
