Little Lost Souls

Our Story

To protect my son and his privacy until he is ready to tell his story, this will only be an outline of the abuse.  My ex-husband and I split custody of our two child, I had the girl and he had the boy Ryan.  Over a course of years Ryan's step-mother abuse him.  The social worker was called so many times and each time I heard the same thing, as long as the step-mother was out of the house they wouldn't do anything.  My son was even in the hospital once with a broken jaw. It wasn't until the regular social worker was on vacation and another one had to take the case that things finally changed. The step-mother beat Ryan from the top of his forehead to his knees. I was told to get a lawyer to get custody. Because once again, she left the house after the abuse until things cooled down and then she was back. After court my son lived with me for two years and wanted to go back to live with his dad. His step-mother got help and because it was her first time she didn't have to do any time. I didn't find out until later that even after he moved back to his father's that the abuse started again

Ryan just turned 18 and now the abuse he went through has surfaced. He went into the hospital for a few days, seeking help for it and I know that there is still more he will have to deal with

The step-mother ended up turning to drugs and spent her time in and out of hospital and jail, she is no longer around.

The social workers did not protect my son, they knew the pattern on how she would leave each time something happened and return at a later time when the heat was off of her. They wouldn't take my son out of the house because of this. At the time I had no money for a legal battle, but to protect my son and get him out of that house I borrowed from every one I knew to do it. The social workers did stand on Ryan and my side in court with all there records, but I shouldn't of had to hire a lawyer to fight for custody of Ryan, they should of just took him out of the house knowing what was going on.

So this is the outline of his story! Maybe one day there will be a page added to where Ryan will tell his own story. He was four when the abuse started and I got him when he was 6 so I know he doesn't know all that took place with the legal part of it, and I have never talked to him about what role everyone played in it. I feel that when he is ready to talk about it he will ask the questions.
