SHADY

Will you save a stray? Shady came from Pets 4 Pets, a no-kill rescue organization. Please save others like him. He is the most affectionate cat in the world.

Shady

Shady was seven months old when Joey (my son) and I saw him in the pet store. He was born 4/5/2000. He was an all black (or so we thought) kitty. The store (PetsMart ) let us take him out of the cage and hold him. He loved to be held and scratched. I left my name and telephone number.

That night I got a call from his foster mom. Once she found out we already had two cats, she said we could have Shady. She said he had a white spot under his chin! I didn't see it-turns out the collar they had on him hid it! Shady does actually have a white spot under his chin, and when he sleeps in the sun, you can see dark brown in the black. Not that we care-the other two cats are calicos!

When she asked when we wanted him, I told her as soon as possible. I picked him up the next day!

I had to fill out a questionnaire/application for Shady. One question asked where he was going to sleep. I thought, gee, they don't know cats, do they? They sleep wherever they want to! And that's what I put on the application: that he would sleep wherever he wanted! I later found out they were trying to make sure you wouldn't put the cat outside to sleep!

I took him to the vet immediately, and found out he had ear mites, so he had to be treated and so did the other two cats, July and August . They were none too happy!

They were none too happy about Shady anyhow! He's actually weasled his way into top cat land. August is no longer the dominant cat (just tell her that!!) They still hiss and grrrr at each other regularly!

Shady LOVES to play. My husband calls him our Black Lab Kitty. Shady loves to play fetch with his ball, and he wags his tail and talks to you. He comes when his name is called, and is not afraid of strangers. When we have company, Shady is right there greeting everyone. July and August just run and hide!

And like all good cat owners, I'm feeding two neighborhood strays. Because of my fear that they have feline leukemia, I don't touch them. I feed them on paper plates, and when I throw the plates away (in the garbage can outside), I wash my hands really well before touching my cats. The one cat is the last of a litter of strays with feline leukemia, and we think the other cat was the father of that litter.
