Big Powderhorn Mountain is located on the western tip of Michigan's majestic Upper Peninsula, between Ironwood and Bessemer, Michigan, 2 miles off U.S. 2. There are a total of 25 ski trails in the ski area, 35 percent beginner, 35 percent intermediate, and 30 percent advanced. There are about 250 skiable acres at the mountain. The longest run at Big Powderhorn is 1 mile long. There are 9 total double lifted chairs and a hand tow. The lift uphill capacity per hour is 10,800. Snowmaking is available on 90 percent of the ski area's hills. The Average snowfall is 214 inches per year. Its summit elevation is 1,840 feet. Its vertical drop is 622 feet. The Blackjack ski resort is located in Bessemer, Michigan, on U.S. 2. There are a total of 21 trails in the ski area, including a 1/2 pipe and snowboard park, trails consist of 20 percent beginner, 40 percent intermediate, and 40 percent advanced. Average annual snowfall is 210 inches. There are 4 double-lifted chairs and 2 rope tows, with an uphill capacity of 4800 skiers per hour. The skier vertical drop is 456 feet, with the longest run being Horseshoe at 5300 feet. Snowboards are welcome on all runs. Also included on the hills are the Mogul fields, Spillway and Cameron run. Indianhead Mountain is located on the western tip of the Upper Peninsula, near Wakefield, Michigan. There are a total of 19 trails on the ski area, 21 percent beginner, 37 percent intermediate, and 42 percent advanced. There are about 160 skiable acres at the mountain. They have 9 total lifts to use on the hills. The lift uphill capacity per hour is 8,550. The average snowfall per year is 211 inches. Its summit elevation is 1,935 feet. Marquette Mountain is located about 8 miles Southeast of the city of Marquette, on M-553. There are a total of 22 trails on the ski area, 15 percent beginner, 50 percent intermediate, and 35 percent advanced. There are a total of 144 skiable acres at the mountain. They have 4 lifts for use, and the total uphill lift capacity per hour is 3,600. The highest lift elevation is 1,360 feet. The vertical drop is 600 feet. Marquette Mountain is snowboarding friendly, and offers a halfpipe, snowboard park, and an alpine park. Mont Ripley is located on Michigan Highway 26 one-half mile east of the vertical lift bridge that connects Houghton and Hancock. It is a short drive from other major Midwest ski areas and have a reciprocal daily pass agreement discount with all the other ski areas in the Western U.P. and Northern Wisconsin. We are located in the Keweenaw Peninsula, rich in copper mining history, and is adjacent to the Keweenaw National Historic Park. Mont Ripley sports a double chair-lift capable of lifting 1,100 skiers per hour. Combine this with a T-bar and you have the facilities to accommodate plenty of ski enthusiasts. Mount Bohemia is the newest ski resort to open up in the Upper Peninsula. It is a ski resort like no other in the Midwest, with the highest vertical drop in the region, of 900'. Much of the terrain is very advanced or expert only. This hill is not for beginners. Mount Bohemia is located in the Keweenaw Peninsula, where as much as 270 inches of snow falls each winter. No snow making equipment is ever needed, because mother nature makes enough of her own! If you want to get away from the main runs, Mount Bohemia has plenty of deep powder in its back country slopes. Norway Mountain is located in the Northwest portion of the southern triangle in the Upper Peninsula, near the Norway-Iron Mountain location, on U.S. 2. They have a total of 12 trails at the ski area; 30 percent beginner, 35 percent Intermediate, and 35 percent advanced. There are two double chair lifts, one hand tow, and one rope tow. Snowmaking is available on 100 percent of the ski area's hills. Its vertical drop is 500 feet. Toasty's Bar and Grill in the main level at Norway Mountain is the perfect place to enjoy toasty hot-grilled family favorites or to grab a quick bite, at an affordable price, before heading back to the slopes. Upstairs at Toasty's Bar you can enjoy a toasty warm drink and toasty hot snacks while overlooking the ski area with friends and family. The adjacent upstairs dining area is a great place to enjoy your home-packed lunch. |
After a one-year closure, the Pine Mountain Ski Resort opened for business under new owners during the 2000-2001 winter season. Pine Mountain has skiing for the entire family. The easy bunny area of the hill has its own tow rope and easy access to the triple chair when the novice are ready to progress. The advanced skiers will enjoy the pine glade or crusing down hematite and middle wall. The snowboard park is large and has its own handle lift so there is no boring hump back to a chair. An in-ground half pipe and nice jumps mean lots of fun and air. Skiing and snowboarding lessons are available at the Mountain, taight by experienced instructors. Day tickets for adults are $20.00 for a full day, and $15.00 for a half-day. For junior skiers (ages 10-17), a full day ticket is $15.00, while a half-day ticket is $10.00. Porcupine Mountains has a total of 15 downhill trails in the ski area. There are three beginner trails, seven intermediate trails, and five advanced trails. There are about 100 skiable acres out of 320 in the Porcupine Mountains. A triple chair and T-bar lift serves the Eastern Summit. The Western Summit is served by a double chair and a handle tow serves the "Bunny" slope. The lift uphill capacity per is 3,600 skiers. Ski Brule is located in the western half of the Upper Peninsula, near Iron River, Michigan. There are a total of 17 ski trails located at Ski Brule; 30 percent beginner, 40 percent intermediate, and 30 percent advanced. There are a total of about 145 skiable acres at Ski Brule. There are a total of 11 lifts at Ski Brule, including hand tows for the beginners. The uphill capacity per hour is 6,500. Snow is made at Ski Brule continuously during the winter time, and Ski Brule opens the earliest than any other ski resort in the Upper Peninsula, and closes the latest. the advanced skier, while beginners can take advantage of the midway unloading station, where the decent is wide and gentle. Two new runs were added in 1992; "Lookout" is more difficult while "Racer's Ridge" appeals to the intermediate skier. The year 1993 saw the completion of "Bonsai", a very difficult and narrow mogul-filled run, which brings Ripley's total to nine exciting and challenging runs. The entire area is now lighted for night skiing with more improvements taking place each year. Mont Ripley provides the skier with a comfortable chalet, featuring a cafeteria and lockers, as well as the ski shop and services already mentioned. Our area is also well-known for its National Ski Patrol unit. Mont Ripley Ski Patrol is 60 members strong and has been named the Runner Up-Outstanding Ski Patrol in the nation in the past.
