The Cauldron and The Cross FAQ

  1. Why the 'no scripture' rule? What have you got against the bible?

  2. Not a dammned thing, actually. I simply wish to provide a level playing field here. You will find many, many interfaith forums wherein the bible is debated ad nauseum by Pagans, Xtians, Atheists, Agnotics and everyone in between. Someone recently stated that a Xtian without a bible is not a Xtian, I say BULL!

Selective scripture is often used as a weapon to hammer home points in an age old debate which I feel is pointless and time consuming, and almost *always* denigrates into a silly 'you're wrong, I'm right' pissing match. If your representation as a spiritual being resonates with someone searching, it's not too hard for them to find a bible is it?

  3. What *are* the rules anyhow?
The rules are posted here in the forum and here on the start page. It's pretty basic.

  4. What is your religious affiliation?
I have no religious affiliation whatsoever.

  5. What's your religion?
I'm not religious, I'm an Eclectic Pagan Witch, which is not a religion, but a path or "way of being".

  6. If there's no theology, scripture or dogma, what will people talk about?
Their lives, their families, their feelings, the world around them. Their relationship with the divine, and how it enriches and enhances their lives. Religion is secondary, the *person* is important.

  7. Why is the word Christian abbreviated to Xtian? Isn't that disrespectful?
The explanation can be found here

  8. So why a religion/spirituality forum if you're not religious and don't believe in the bible?
I've never stated that I don't 'believe in the bible', it exists doesn't it? It has it's merits. Religion and spirituality are not interdependant, and not everyone interprets the bible the same way, as is evidenced by the ever obvious diversity in Xtianity and Paganism or any chosen path. I believe that the best way to represent your Goddesses or Gods, spiritual path, religion or way of life is by example, YOUR example. Not scripture, not dogma, theology, philosophy, not the rede or the law or the commandments, YOU.

Many people are restless and searching, but they're also tired of being *thwapped* upside the head with impersonal quotes, and not getting actual answers to questions, just more confusion and more questions, the answers of which may be self evident to one who studies the theological text extensively, but means nothing to the lay person.

  9. Do you hate Xtians?
    Nope.

  10. Are you trying to lead people to Witchcraft or Paganism?
Nope. I am not a leader or a teacher, nor have I any desire to be. In any case 'conversion' is not the Pagan way. I learn a lot from the people here, talking to others helps me expand and define my own views. I want to draw people who have the guts to challenge themselves and explain their beliefs from *within*, in the hope that this may help people who are searching to define what is they're searching for, as well as give people an honest view of other paths.
