On The Road

On April 14th I have left Hong Kong to start my long planned travels through Asia. At the time, the ongoing war in Iraq, a raging epidemic of atypical pneumonia bringing Hong Kong and the rest of the world on the border of mass hysteria (with an interesting fashion spin-off, see Hong Kong page for illustration) was added to what was already an atmosphere of doom and gloom in the world. But I still hoped to be able to gradually navigate my way from North Western Asia to South East Asia without too many hurdles along the way.

Tn the meantime the above is in the past tense because I did have to change my travel plans quite a bit as Tibet 'got closed' to all foreigners to protect it against the SARS epidemic not long after my departure.
My first stop still was Nepal, but my overland trip to Tibet was no longer possible, so I decided to turn the travel schedule upside down and to travel to Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesie first. In September I made a second attempt, and now successfully, to travel through China. Starting in China's north western province Xinjiang, travelling overland through Gansu en Qinghai towards Sichuan and Yunnan.

Read up about my China travel on the China pages for the latest news and pictures which I try to upload along the way. You can email me at the following address:
