AMERICAN CRESTED | |||||||||||||||||||||||
BACK TO THE CRESTED LIST HOME |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
The American crested is self coloured cavy with a contrasting crest colour.
The crest must be at least 75% contrasting colour.

|||||||||||||||||||||||
The coat can be of any self colour - as long as it conforms to the Australian standard.
At the moment, I have only ever seen the crest being white, but it is allowed to be any other standardised self colour.
One of the hard things with this breed - is actually getting the crest to be white.

The American crested cavies carry a "spotting" gene, which passes on as a patch of contrasting colour - but how big the spot, and where it is on the body is anyone's guess. | It is possible for a baby from an American crested : American crested breeding to come out all white, self with contrasting patches/spots or all self with no hint of white at all!
