AOV LONGHAIR
BACK TO THE
LONGHAIR LIST

HOME
This is the class where the two remaining longhaired breeds are exhibited - the ALPACA and the ENGLISH MERINO
THE ALPACA
Only recently has this breed's name been changed from the "merino peruvian".
RIGHT
A white alpaca - which end is the head?
This breed has a coat that consists of tight ringed curls, while not being frizzy, that covers the entire body - the same way as a peruvian's coat.
This breed has the same 'style' of coat as the peruvian - being that the hair covers the whole body when presented.
THE ENGLISH MERINO

This breed is very similar to the coronet - with the obvious difference of the coat.
This breed has hair that naturally falls over the face, but when shown, the exhibitor has the option to comb the hair over the face, or to comb it to the side.
The breed's coat is the same as the ALPACA - with the hair being in tight ringed curls - not being frizzy.
ABOVE
An english merino cavy
The difference between the two though is  that the merino has a crest, rather than the hair falling over the face.
