Rosters

Each owner will maintain a roster of exactly 16 players.  The minimum and maximum players allowed at each position are described in the table below.

Position QB RB WR TE K Team
Minimum 2 3 4 2 1 1
Maximum 3 5 6 3 2 2

These roster requirements and limitations will be in effect for all games.  If an owner fails to stay within these parameters, the Commissioner is authorized to make roster adjustments prior to the first game of the week.
Injuries
There will be no provisions for injured reserve or last minute injury replacements.  Please manage your rosters and lineups with this in mind.

Yardage Points

Passing 1 pt for every 40 yards
Rushing 1 pt for every 20 yards
Receiving 1 pt for every 20 yards

Special Teams/Defense

Special Teams Defined
Special Teams will be defined as the the unit on the field for any of these situations: kickoffs, kickoff returns, punts, punt returns, defense against field goals, or defense against extra points.  Any touchdowns or safeties scored by your Special Teams or Defensive units will count in your fantasy score.  Sacks, fumbles and interceptions credited to your defense and special teams will be tabulated by the FLM software, and will not be subject to appeal.   Please don't take this an endorsement of machines over people.  I am just unsure of how the fumbles are defined for NFL statistical purposes, so I can hardly arbitrate this stat without having a clear idea of what it is.  We'll just let the software handle these three stats.
Double Counting
Double counting of special teams scoring will be possible since both the individual player and the team will get credit for special teams scoring.  For example, if Jermaine Lewis returns a kickoff for a touchdown, Lewis gets credit for a touchdown and so does the Baltimore Special Teams/Defense.

Starting lineups

Legal lineup
Each owner will submit a lineup with 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, K, and 1 Team.  In addition, the owner will play an extra player from any position EXCEPT QB, known as the Wild Card position.  Including the wild card, 9 players make a starting lineup.  Note: a Team is considered a player.

Lineup Submission Deadline
A player is locked from your lineup after 0900 Central on the day he is playing in the Real Deal.  Therefore, the latest anyone can submit a lineup is 0900 Central on Sunday, which will be known as the 'normal deadline'.  Any players playing in early games must be submitted prior to the normal deadline as specified above.  You may submit a partial lineup for the early games.

Lineup Submission Methods
There are two methods for lineup submission forms: regular e-mail or your lineup submission form on the web page.
If you opt for regular e-mail, please use this link.   Please include the player's position, first name, and last name.  As a courtesy to your opponent, send a 'cc:' to him.  Comments, especially smack, are encouraged.

Your lineup submission form can be accessed through your team page.  You will need to submit a password before the start of the season.  The passwords are not case sensitive.  Keep them simple: use your pet's name or the first name of your favorite swimsuit model.  (If you are one of those lucky studs, your pet IS your favorite swimsuit model, and it will be that much easier to remember.)  DO NOT get fancy with the passwords.  We are not safeguarding a nuclear missile system.

The lineup submission form will be updated every week after the completion of the weekly free agent period.  Use your mouse to 'x' the box next to any player you would like to start.  Once you are satisfied with your lineup, click the Verify Lineup Button.  The system will give you a warning if there are any errors with your lineup.  If you get an error message, just repeat the process until you receive a verification message, then click the Submit Lineup Button.  You will receive a copy of you submission as well as the Commissioner and your opponent.

Please note: the system will NOT prevent you from submitting an invalid lineup.  It merely warns you when you have selected an invalid lineup, but it allows you to send it anyway.  The Commissioner will not be responsible for ensuring your lineup is valid and complete.

Best Efforts
In order to encourage a highly competitive league, every owner should make his best effort submit a lineup before the deadline every week.  We need every owner making his best effort to win every week, even at the end of the season when there may be several teams out of playoff contention.

Trades

Demonstrating consent
Trades will require that all parties to a trade give explicit consent by e-mail.  Please do not send the entire thread of your trade talks.  After you come to an agreement, please create a new e-mail describing all players and considerations, then send it to the other owner, who writes, "I accept", then forwards this message to the the Commissioner.  This little bit of extra effort will help me a great deal.
Include the first name, last name, and team of each player involved in the trade, and specify each draft pick, not just by round: Troy Brown NE and pick 5.12, for example.

Definition of trade
A trade is a transaction involving two or more teams in which Team A relinquishes its rights to players or picks to Team B, or any combination thereof, in exchange for players or picks from Team B.  No direct transfer of players or picks from one team to another may occur without consideration in the form of players or picks.  When a draft is in progress, only picks for the current draft may be traded, and if no draft is in progress, only picks for the next draft may be traded.
Only players and draft picks may be exchanged.  The IYDFFL does not sanction any other kind of exchange or barter.

Roster Requirements
If a trade causes you to have an illegal roster, you are required to make an adjustment which brings you into compliance.  If you are over the roster limit, you must immediately drop the appropriate number of players.  If you have less than a complete roster, you must fill any vacant position as soon as league rules permit you to do so, either through the weekly waiver draft or free agent acquisition.

Commissioner's Approval
The Commissioner may refuse to approve a trade when he deems that there is insufficient consideration only when the general welfare of the league is compromised.  He will aim to prevent an owner from trying to sabotage his own team, "parking" players, or colluding with other teams.

Season trading deadline
Trading deadline will be on the roster freeze just before Game 10.

Free Agents (all times quoted are Central)

Rosters will be frozen every Saturday at 1200.  Players may be waived or claimed beginning every Tuesday at 12am, the beginning of the waiver draft period, which will continue until Wednesday at 8pm.  If different teams select the same player, the team with the worst record will have precedence.  The tie breakers will be worst point differential, then a drawing to break the final tie.
If a player is waived, he is still officially on that team's roster until the free agent claim is granted.  If no free agent claim is granted, the player remains on the team, and the owner has the option of dropping him and picking up another player during the free agent period. After the waiver draft, free agent claims will be first come, first served until rosters are frozen on Saturday. Any player who is dropped is ineligible to be claimed until the following week.
Example:  I ask for waivers on OJ Simpson and claim Tony Dorsett.  Another team higher in the waiver draft order drops Terry Metcalf and claims Dorsett, so my free agent claim is denied.  Simpson is still on my roster, though, I can opt to drop him and claim any eligible free agent during the free agent period.  I could not add Metcalf at that time as he would be ineligible for that week.  I could, however, make a free agent claim for Metcalf the next week.

Draft Method

The IYDFFL draft is an e-mail type draft with a 24-hour time limit.  The draft officially begins on the first Sunday after July 4th, at 1800 Central.

This league has been very successful in its short history, mainly because of the enthusiasm and skill of the owners of the IYDFFL.  Please be considerate of other owners when using your draft time.  Each owner should take all the time he needs to make a good selection, but he should also be organized and use his time efficiently.   When someone is burning time needlessly, eleven other owners are waiting.  If each owner does his part, the draft will have a lively tempo, everyone will be active, and the IYDFFL draft will wrap up in time so everyone can get ready for their other drafts.

Stuff happens.  If you know you will be gone for a short period of time, you can submit an ordered list of players and instructions which the Commissioner will execute.  Another option is nominating someone from another league to serve as your team's draft representative.

The IYDFFL draft has an overloading feature.  This means you can exceed roster limits during the draft as long as you stay within the positions limits and make your cuts no later than two weeks before the draft.

Since we have such an early draft, rosters are frozen immediately after the draft, thus free agent pick ups and trades are prohibited for several weeks.  The roster freezes will be lifted just prior to the cutdown date.
