Chapter 4 The next few days seemed to mimic the first. They would work from wee hours in the morning until extremely late at night. It was definitely her most challenging role physically which strangely enough made her enjoy it even more. But what she didn’t enjoy was being away from Jason and most of all, Jeff. She had only been there a week and she was homesick. "I know I’m just being a big baby.", Kari told Adam one morning over coffee. The two had found a nice little mom and pop café and met there each morning for breakfast. Usually she would just have coffee while Adam scarfed down a huge plate of food. "You’re not being a baby.", he mumbled through his over stuffed lips. Kari cracked up laughing. He swallowed his food and started again, "You’re not being a baby at all. To tell you the truth, I’m ready to go home myself." He lowered his voice as if he was afraid someone would hear him. This amused Kari, "Well, at least you only have a few more days." "Thank goodness. I think my part wraps up tomorrow actually.", he said. "I still have a few more months.", she said looking out the window. "I thought this was what you wanted? This part I mean.", he asked shoveling the last bite of food into his mouth. "Oh, I do. It’s just hard being so far away from home.", she said glancing at him and forcing a smile. He looked up at her and grinned, "So far away from him, you mean." She smiled, "Yeah. I mean, it was one thing to be away from him when I was back home. I could always just hop on a plane and go see him. But it’s not that easy here. And our schedules are so different and so crazy that it’s hard to get hold of him on the phone." He looked at her with pity. "I just miss him like crazy.", she said sipping at her now lukewarm coffee. "Trust me, if I know Jeff, he’s missing you three times as much.", he stated. "Thanks. That makes me feel sssoooooo much better.", she said sarcastically. Adam grabbed the ticket and went up to the counter to pay. Kari made an awful face as she downed the last bit of her coffee. "You ready?", Adam called. She nodded and joined him as they exited the café and made their way down the street. She refused to drive to the set, she claimed that she didn’t miss as much scenery when she walked. She tried her best to disguise herself so that no one would recognize her. But it was hard for her to blend in with the crowd when she was walking beside Adam. His height and long blonde hair made him stick out like a sore thumb. They finally reached the set and headed off to their trailers to prepare for another grueling day. Kari entered her dressing room to find a dozen silver roses sitting in front of the mirror. She smiled a huge smile and ran over to read the card thinking that they were from Jeff. Her smile turned to confusion as they weren’t from him at all. They were from Adrian. "Do you like them?", the almost hypnotizing voice called from the doorway pulling Kari from her thoughts. She looked over at him and almost blushed, "They’re beautiful. They’re so hard to find. Where’d you get them?" "There’s a little market down the street that has them every once in a while.", he said smiling slightly at her, "I saw them and I thought of you. The rarity of their genuine beauty makes them stand out." She blushed again as her assistant peeked her head in the door and told her that they were ready for her in the make up trailer. "Thank you.", Kari said as she made her way past Adrian, smiling the whole way. "You’re very welcome Ms. Knight.", he returned. "Please. Call me Kari.", she called before rounding the corner and entering the trailer. Last Chapter ..*.. Next Chapter ..*.. Chapter Index ..*.. Home |
