Chapter 11 Sky woke up the next morning feeling like an entire high school band had marched across her head. "What the hell?", she said to herself. It took a moment to realize where she was. "No way.", she said to herself as the reality of the situation hit her. A look of horror showed on her face as she realized she was lying in bed next to Jeff, both of them wearing no clothes. "What have I done?", she said placing her hand over her mouth in shock. She very quietly got out of the bed and gathered her clothes, which had somehow been scattered about the room. She went into the bathroom and took a shower. The events of the previous night kept playing over and over in her head, what she could remember of them. "The last thing I remember is coming into the room.", she said trying to convince herself that nothing had happened. But, she knew with certainty that something had happened. In her drunken stupor, she had slept with Jeff. She was so disgusted with herself for losing control. She brushed her hair and teeth. "Thank goodness I carry a toothbrush in my purse.", she thought to herself as her breath smelt of stale liquor. She decided that she would sneak out of the room. She couldn’t bring herself to face him. " What if he wasn’t that drunk and I made a complete ass of myself? What if he has lost all respect for me? What if it wasn’t any good?", she asked herself. She grabbed her purse and ever so gently opened the bathroom door. She crept towards the door of the room. "Sky?", Jeff said startling her. Her stomach was tied in knots as she turned, barely able to look at him. "What happened? I feel like hell.", he asked. "We had a bit much to drink.", she said almost in a whisper. "Did we…..", he started but was interrupted. "Yeah, I’m pretty sure of it.", she said staring at the wall. They sat there silent, neither one of them knowing what to say. Then Jeff spoke up, "Sky, I’m sorry." The whole thing made her sick: the way it happened, the fact that neither one of them could remember. ‘Is he sorry it happened at all or sorry that he couldn’t remember’, she wondered. The thing that bothered her the most was that she knew that they hadn’t used any protection. "How could I be so stupid!", she thought realizing the possible life altering consequences of her actions. "Sky?", Jeff said pulling her out of her thoughts. "I have to go", she said almost in tears as she grabbed her things. "Sky, I……", he started again but was interrupted. "Save it!", she said as she exited the room shutting the door behind her. She made it to her car and burst into tears as she sat behind the wheel and leaned her head on it. "Why?", she mumbled. Just then, there was a knock on the window. It was Jeff. "Sky. Open the door, Sky.", he said very calmly. Sky raised her head and turned to look out of the opposite window. She wiped tears off of her face and regained her composure. There was no way she was going to let him see her like that. He knocked again, "Sky, please open the door." She turned the key and rolled down the window. "What?", she asked very calmly. "Can we at least talk about this?", he asked, "Come on back up to the room." "Nothing to talk about.", she said trying to keep her emotions in check. "I think there is.", he said getting irritated. "We made a mistake. It’s over and done with. There is nothing we can do to change that.", she said. Sky looked into his eyes, "I’m sorry." She could feel her emotions rising in her throat as she stared into his eyes, "I have to go." She rolled up the window and started the car. "Sky, wait!", Jeff yelled as she put the car into reverse and drove away. "Damnit!", he said angry at himself for letting her get away. He went back up to his room and laid back down on the bed. "Why did I have to go and screw that up?", he asked himself. "Screw what up?", Matt said. Jeff was shocked as he hadn’t heard his brother walk in. He was by himself. "Nothing. Everything.", he said in disgust. "Where’s Sky?", Matt asked oblivious to the fact that something was wrong. Jeff didn’t answer. "Jeff, where’s Sky?", Matt asked again. Jeff, furious at the whole situation, started to take his frustrations out on his brother. "I don’t know, okay!?!", he yelled. "What do you mean you don’t know?", he asked. "She left.", Jeff replied, "She just got in her car and left. Said she was sorry." "For what?", Matt asked as if he didn’t know. Jeff just looked at him. "Oh.", Matt responded, "Well, she’ll be back." "I don’t think so.", Jeff said with sorrow. "She has to come back to get Josie.", Matt said with a smile. Last Chapter ..*.. Next Chapter ..*..
