Poem Review by Andrew Angus

Title of Poem:
Amour
Source:
Shadows of My Soul (2004)
Poet:
Jill A. Terry
Rating:
4 laurels out of 5 laurels

Jill's poem "Amour" is a free verse consisting of five stanzas. It has 15 lines.

The poem is about lost of innocence or physical changes or emotional changes in a woman's life.  This poem could also be about first love.

The character in the poem looks at the mirror and sees a great change in herself.

She sees that she is not a girl anymore but a full-blown woman with feelings of passion and desire.

"Who is this person that I've become

The reflection is the same when I look in the mirror
Yet something about me has changed

I'm no longer the person I'm perceived to be
Since you touched that place inside of me
You rekindled my passion for lust and life
Making my  world alive and bright"

A girl usually matures faster than a boy. A girl can experience physical changes and emotional changes in herself. From a giggling girl, she develops ladylike manners as a teenager  and becomes conscious of the opposite sex.

Is the guy not serious or is the  guy  not into her? The poem says-

How far you will go I wait eagerly to see
You restrain the feelings you have for me

The poet just realized one characteristic of many men. Men are usually restraining when it comes to their feelings.

The poem ends like this-

You are not mine....nor am I yours
Unquestionable desire.....unfettered amour-

The female character admits that they  do not possess each other.

The female character thinks  her desires are not  questionable but her  love  is free or unchained.

In my opinion, marriage is the only way two lovers can posess each other.

I'm no longer the person I'm perceived to be
Since you touched that place inside of me
You rekindled my passion for lust and life

Your words touch me....my spirit does soar
It was you found the key and unlocked the door
The door to my heart the key to our past
We journey unknown through a pleasant repass

How far you will go I wait eagerly to see
You restrain the feelings you have for me

You are not mine....nor am I yours
Unquestionable desire.....unfettered amour-
