Biographic Data
Manny Rivers LaCross, for many years a yacht builder and oceanographer, began a career as travel writer. On a voyage to the Aegean in the mid-1970s, LaCross interviewed many Greek citizens on the Ionian coast while photographing the remnants of the geological digs on Thira, the site of the mythical Atlantis. During the excavation, LaCross unearthed a number of important examples of pre-Minoan architecture; he explored the wine-dark sea while navigating the straits of Crete and the coast of the Peloponnese. His Piraeusian letters reveal an extraordinary sensibility and clarity towards the Hellenic age. Once he had returned stateside, he began a career of restaurant reviewing. He had a short stint as secretary to the Republican Intersession, while advising a number of contemporary politicians on the art of negotiation. Eventually, LaCross became concerned with 19th century texts and taught seminars on the topic in the Berkshires. LaCross's contribution to eleatic ontology is unparalled in modern epistemology. His articles on sound and silence were influential in popular literature, as is clear from the interest in his oeuvre by the NohNoize collaborative. Each summer, LaCross holds lectures in mountain retreats where his ideas are fostered in a think tank focus group environment. LaCross holds degrees from Oggsford College and the University of Transylvania.
