DAVID BOWIE:ASHES TO ASHES >PAUL: "This is probably the first really expensive video I can remember seeing. I think I saw it on 'Top Of The Pops'.I thought it was really amazing then. I still see it quite a bit now and still think it's a brilliant video - dead ground-breaking and Bowie looks brilliant in it."
BLONDIE:HEART OF GLASS >PAUL: "Blondie are one of my favourite groups of all time. I like a lot of groups from that late-seventies period like Magazine, Blondie, The Clash, the Pistols, and a lot of new wave stuff. I really like XTC as well. This is great."
IAN DURY AND THE BLOCKHEADS:HIT ME WITH YOUR RHYTHM STICK >CHAD: "This is the first single I ever bought. I was a bit young to go out and get it myself, so I had to send my mum out to buy it for me..." >PAUL: "...From Woolworths." >CHAD: "That's right. It was probably about 10p at the time."
SOUL II SOUL:KEEP ON MOVIN' >PAUL: "When Soul II Soul came out I was really disillusionaed with Indie music at the time - I thought it was really weak and that their album was really innovative. It reminded me of when I heard MARRS' 'Pump Up The Volume',a brilliant track. In my lifetime the real innovative music has always been dance music, the stuff that came along and shocked people in the late Eighties and Nineties. This track just sounded, to me, different than anything else a British group had done."
JIMI HENDRIX:CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC >CHAD: "He was one of my favourite artists when I was a kid and probably the reason I bought my first guitar and started playing it. I've never actually seen the video for this, so i'll look forward to it."
NIRVANA:ABOUT A GIRL >CHAD: "This is the 'Unplugged' version. They're a band who did a lot to bring guitar music closer to the mainstream in the early Nineties. I think this is a good illustration of the melodic qualities of their songs. The acoustic version brings out the melody quite a bit."
THE CLASH:WHITE RIOT >PAUL: "The Clash are probably my favourite punk group of all time. I was really a bit young to get into them the first time round, but I sort of got into them through their later commercial stuff and then went back to the earlier stuff. This is my favourite track they've ever done."
