I looked for an AFM for the Protege LX and took the spring out of it, but before you remove it; make sure you make a mark on the wheel so when you install it in the RX7 AFM you just adjust it to its original position and give it the proper tension.
So far I haven't got any problems and it feels just fine. One of the reasons that I did this is because with the stock RX-7 AFM it was very hard to get a good quality idle and at the same time gain that extra horse at the top end without going lean. Also the fumes coming out of the exhaust were too much to handle. After I replaced the springs the fumes were gone and now I get good Idle and that extra boost after 6000 rpm. I also drilled a hole where the screw is for the air by pass, to adjust the idle even furder. There is an interesting article about the RX-7 AFM here
It is in the Miata webpage, they talk about its pros and cons of the RX-7 AFM. |
