Maraul Devon Rex

Devon Hybrids

Devon Rex may be out crossed to American Shorthair (ASH) and British Shorthair (BSH) in CFA (currently the deadline is 5/1/2003). These out crosses are allowed in order to increase the gene pool.

The first generation of an ASH or (BSH) breeding to Devon's produces only straight coated kittens. These kittens are called F1 hybrids. When a F1 hybrid is bred to a Devon for the second generation, some kittens will be straight coated hybrids (F2) and some will be curly coated Devon's - the odds are pretty much 50/50.

The gene that causes the curly coat is apparently
also responsible for type, as the straight coated hybrids do not resemble Devon's, but look more like ASH.

Hybrids do, however, have very Devon-like personalities, and seem to shed less than "regular" cats. Thus anyone who is interested in Devon's becauseof their personality would love a hybrid.
