Les reves naissent la nuit
acousmatic music for 6 or 8-channel digital audio (2007)

Dur. 9'
The materials included in Les reves naissent la nuit are instrumental:
- cello played with bow
- suspended cymbal 18'' played with double-bass bow; a metal screw is held in contact with the edge of the cymbal while the cymbal is put in resonance by the bow. Changing the position of the screw changes the node of resonance.
The title refers to a movie made by Jess Franco in 1969, even though there isn't diegetic link neither with it nor with Bruno Nicolai's music, but only a nuance, a nocturnal color of objects hidden to the consciousness taking shape for few moments differentiating from the unconscious sea and suddenly being captured by its currents and going adrift. A similar impression I felt watching Franco's movie, even if more obscure and morbid. The level of materials' processing changes according to their position in space during the performance. This creates different perceptive layers according to the point of fruition, a different
light if the listener sits at the bottom of the hall rather than in the middle part of it or in the front seats (Performance A) / in room 1, 2 or 3 (Performance B).
Instrumental materials were performed by me and the recording was carried out by Gian Marco Mora in Parma on August 2nd 2007.
Les reves naissent la nuit was composed between August 4th and September 23rd, 2007.
Les reves naissent la nuit is a commission of Galleria Contemporaneo of Mestre - "Resonant Spaces 1 - suonare lo spazio/il nastro magnetico", a project by Federico Costanza for the photographic exhibition of Gabriele Basilico
