Krewe of Hula
We knew for several weeks Dug and his cohorts were planning something we just couldn't figure out what.

So when the tiki torches started coming through the door we weren't a bit surprised. In a series of secret meeting they had created the Krew of Hula ("Boom-Shaka-Laka-Laka, Boom-Shaka-Laka-Laka!")

The entrouage even put on a mini-parade with a "float" made out of a industrial mop bucket. The band bailed at the last minute.

The lovely Queen of Hula, Lula, was easily the hit of the party. (More about that HERE)

The heart of the Krewe

With the arrival of the Hula Krewe, things got rolling. People started seriously partying.

I never was able to fully explain that Krewe's are a New Orleans tradition and Courir's are an Acadiana tradition.

But this is California. At best, Mardi Gras is just another excuse to have a party.

Which is really in the spirit of the thing when you think about it.

Already rumors (and an alleged photograph) have been circulating about what this manaical group could be planning for next year.

If nothing else, their damnable secrecy makes their Krew among one of the most authentic aspects of the party.
