A REGIONAL REVIEW
This region can be
accessed both by Bus or Train to reach LONAVLA railway
station. The road to PUNE passes a lot of hills and lakes.
This area can be visited almost throughout the year but is best, in
the winter and the rainy season. The southern range of this area is
sometimes called the' "Lake district" of the Sahyadris.
THE RAJMACHI AREA
The area north of LONAVLA in
which lies the twin peaks of Rajmachi fort. There are some hill
forts and large lakes, most approaches are long walks.
THE MANDVI RANGE
This area is the south eastern boundary of the
region and contains easy places to trek in. These places can be
approached by the PUNE local train services via the LONAVLA,
MALAVLI and the KHAMSHED railway stations.
THE PAUN MAVAL
The huge plateau south of LONAVLA and
extending up to Mulshi Lake and the Konkan is known as PAUN MAVAL.
There are many intensive hills and forts to climb amidst thick
forests. A great monsoon experience can be had here. A rare treat
for nature lovers.
