mark feldman's summer trip - stop #8
new orleans, la - june 8-10
what a unique place - i stuck mostly to the historic french quarter, taking a walking tour, admiring the architecture, checking out the jazz and mardi gras museums, stopping whenever i heard good live music, which was often... i really felt like i was in another country here
and the food, don't get me started!  too late.  i ate some delicious gumbo and jambalaya at a place called the praline connection had crawfish pasta at a place called the corner grille (the waiter gave me a few boiled crawfish to try too just so i could get the experience), did an oyster shot (don't ask), and had a hurricane at the famous pat o'brien's. yum!  i especially like how all the waitstaff call their customers "baby."
and of course no new orleans trip would be complete without preservation hall (left and below), the wrigley field of dixieland style jazz music.  no bathrooms, no a/c, no seats for most (i got lucky and got a pillow), no amplification, just great music.  i made it through two 45 minute sets.
we finally head into the wild west... well, texas at least
